How to control my dammed Kerbal on ladders?

Recommended Posts

I have a moon lander with a lader that goes from the ground up past the fuel tank to a little walkway that leads to the cabin. How the hell do I get him off the lader? Once he gets to the top the little green retard just lets go and falls to the bottom?

Ah, Bill is not a retard, that would be someone else.

In future make sure the ladders connect all the way to the walkway, and test it on the pad.

You could try to jump (space) off the end, but he will probably just jump outward. As you are on the Mun, you could just use the jetpack to get up to the walkway.

No im testing it on the earth pad.

The ladders seem to connect but Bill doesnt want to get off it, just fall.

Kerbals on ladders can turn corners only left/right. 90° angle forward/backward is impossible for them.

.

You have to provide them with a continuously angling pathway around the corner ( at least 2 pieces first angled cca 30° the second cca 60° ) like

It seems that for me, its harder to get these guys up the ladders and into the capsule than it is to get to orbit, to another world and land. Trial and error on the pad is the only way I know how to eventually get kerbals to ascend ladders and board capsules.

This is my lander vessel (without the launch system). Need to get the little green puke ball from the ground to the capsel but he gets to the top of the ladder and lets go.

Tip #1) Mind your attitude.

Tip #2) Follow MBobrik's advice and put at least one chunk of ladder in there at an angle. The ladder of the hatch is too far back to reach.

Tip #3) It's Mun... just use the EVA pack. Or jump, you ship ain't that tall.

I see the problem right there. As I said, kerbals *don't do* 90 deg forward/backward angles. you can't make them step forward and go walk on a horizontal surface of a part like that.

.

you have to build a gently angling pathway that goes from the vertical ladder continuously to horizontal like that :

Ladder:

Angled ladder piece 1 (30 deg):

.

Angled ladder piece 2 (60 deg):

.

Horizontal ladder pieces(s):

.

so that the kerbal can crawl continuously:

.

... and keeps going crawling horizontally on ladders. Walking freely on parts high up is generally dangerous as physics tends to break and kerbals tend to go ragdoll for no reason and fall off, or even clip into parts and get ejected at high speeds, explode parts, or straight go pop without any provocation...

Right got you.

Now how do you get the hand bars to go at those angles as I cant seem to make them bend round.....

Im not a child I will refer to the anoying little green fool how I like :P

Trying that but cant seem to get laders to bend at angles.

I spent hours just this morning trying to get a ladder system that worked on my Duna Lander. I finally ended up with this, which lets him climb from the hatch to the ground and back the hatch and in with no problems or falls (see the "post fails" thread in the discussion forum).
