Would be about the same thrust as the current built in backpack but it would have a lot more propellant. Would have to mount it outside like on the side of the ship and you would have to plug it back into it's socket or discard it before getting back inside the ship. Could also at some point at a kind of equipment bay that can store it internally that you would have to open the door to for access to it and anything ealts inside.

Having extra propellant would allow you to safely preform EVA work such as adding supports to large space stations or interplanetary craft post-launch and even between sections that were launched separately and docked in space.

Honestly, the current jet pack is overpowered (for gameplay purposes, I'm not complaining). an MMU does not carry 500m/s of dV (which is around what a kerbal currently carries). The idea of giving a kerbal more means that they could get into orbit around the Mun, and pretty much any planetary body smaller than Duna.

Probably not what the devs intended :)

You can already build your own, in a way -- using docking ports, command seats, standard craft RCS tanks and thrusters, this can already be done. Granted, it's somewhat more bulky than the MMU, but it can fulfil much the same purpose; just don't overbuild it.

I don't know where anyone got the idea of more thrust. As I said it would be basically the same thrust just with more propellant to let you stay out longer without risk of getting stranded. Plus you would have the backup of the normal thruster pack to fall back to if you really screw up.
