Did I meet the Kraken?

Recommended Posts

Well, it was about half way out of the atmosphere when it happened, and I used a lot of struts.

Pics would still be helpful, and possibly a flight log saying what failed first. Also try launching the same vehicle again with the same flight profile and seeing if it still fails.

One possibility: as a rocket burns fuel, it gets lighter and its TWR increases. Real rockets often throttle down (or, in the case of multi-engine rockets like the Saturn V and Falcon 9, shut down some of their engines) close to stage burnout to prevent the acceleration getting high enough to cause structural failure. It's possible that this happened to your rocket.

Kraken attacks are really funky because they are an error with the physics engine and not just inadequate ship construction. If your ship JUST blew up, chances are it wasn't a Kraken attack. If your ship is instantaneously destroyed, flung out of the solar system at fractions of the speed of light, or your screen goes black and your instruments show squirly numbers, you have a Kraken attack.

With that note, Kraken attacks are almost always irreversable, so I keep my saves copied somewhere safe, and back up every important mission. You can do this by going into the KSP directory, finding "Saves", and copying and pasting the folder with the name of your save in the desired backup location.
