Parachutes

Hello all,

My basic return lander got to the point where a single parachute (using the radially mounted ones) no longer is enough to get it to land safely, so I have been forced to bring extra fuel to make a power landing. . . sometimes on my return trip I find myself not having enough fuel to do it through.

So my question: Do multiple parachutes work? I mean based on the small size of my ship, they would just overlap? If not, is there any way to get more... 'parachute power'?

Yes, multiple parachutes work. The parachutes themselves have no collision mesh and are therefore perfectly happy to clip into each other.

Alternatively, since you can now transfer science into your command pod. you could transfer all your science into your command pod and then just land that leaving the rest to either burn up or smash into the ground.

In short, chutes don't interfere with the operation of one another, so feel free to load up. Only thing I'll warn you about is to make sure you place them high enough on what you're trying to land that it doesn't want to flip over (had that happen on a Duna rover lander once) and to be very, very sure the part you stick them on is well-attached to the rest of the craft (couldn't tell you how many times I've had pieces of my ships break off when the chutes open).

When you're landing more than just the capsule, add at least one drogue (if your career tech level allows). It will prevent your ship breaking apart when those chutes open at 500 m.
