It's not that hard. You're watching the best footage, not live transmission. Who knows how many times he tried to do each scene? Sooner or later it's bound to happen, and then you pick that clip and start shooting other scenes. It's called montage.

Impressive flying. But things that made me look twice were: "Wait...how does he get his jet engines to flame like that??" ...and surprise landing gear on Gilly.

I heard rocket engines in places but couldn't really see them, are they tucked under/inside the jets? If so that's a cunning way to deal with the fine control which is so dang hard with jets.

Look at the Jet-Engine Nozzles, he clipped 909's in there
