Add-On Releases part of the forums

As someone who uses lots of mods, I have an idea that I think would make it a lot easier for all of us to keep our KSP add-ons updated.

Essentially, the "Add-on Releases and Projects Showcase" forum would be split in two, with one reserved for discussing particular add-ons (perhaps this could be combined with "General Add-on Affairs") and another where only a thread's OP is capable of adding replies. We could call this simply "Add-on Releases".

The benefits of this would be that threads are only bumped when the add-on's developer makes changes - so that all the back-and-forth discussion (which we'd still want) has its own place. As a result, checking for updates becomes much easier as it just requires a quick look at the forum to check recent bumps in that area.

It seems like a simple solution that could be implemented before we get an in-game version of Spaceport that automates everything.

I don't really work much with the technical side of the forums personally, so I really can't judge how feasible this idea would be myself. However, one thing I've found that helps is to subscribe to the threads of the add-ons I actually use (through the "Thread Tools" dropdown), then periodically check my subscriptions ("Quick Links" -> "Subscribed Threads") and compare version numbers. Most add-on creators do tend to update the version number in the thread title when they make a new release, and a few are even polite enough to include a release date as well.

I know it's not exactly what you asked for, but I hope it helps all the same :)

I've considered this idea in the past, but after asking a variety of mod creators, it was decided that it wouldn't be a good idea. Most like having a thread open to comments, criticism, and support. It's easier for them to manage it all in one place instead of having to find a dedicated support thread buried somewhere in another forum. Easier for us to moderate, too.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
