Manned probe?

At home I have a few of those. I did a few missions with just the seat, some fuel and a engine. About a week ago I did such a mission to land on Ike (Had a Duna mission, so why not give Ike a visit).

I'll upload them when I' home.

Actually smaller ships (or more acurately, small payload ships) are usually better choices for larger moons. There's no problem landing large heavy ship on Minmus or Gilly but on Tylo you'll probably run out of fuel even before you reach the surface, not mentioning return to orbit.

[still haven't set-up an account anywhere I can post pics :-( ]

One thing to remember about seats is that they don't count as 'crewed positions' when you launch, so you need to include a pod for your Kerbal to be in at the start. One way to do that is to make it the first stage of your launch vehicle, eva the Kerbal, have him 'board' the seat and then jettison the pod on the pad, even before you start the engines.

The best way to land on Tylo is with a lander whose final stage is just a kerbal seat and a small engine. Every Kg you cut from the spacecraft that will eventually get back to orbit after taking off from Tylo can save 10's or maybe even 100's of Kgs from the whole lander, making the whole thing easier to get out to Tylo in the first place.

Same logic works for Eve I suppose :P

Yep I know that. Figured it out when testing a rover at KSP. The orbiting craft would have a module.
