Trouble with RemoteTech 2

I am having trouble getting my existing satellites to register any new launches. I have three satellites in synchronous orbit, set to target each other, Mission Control, and the active vessel. However, whenever I launch a new craft it does not register in the network, and only connects to mission control, as seen in the first shot here. Nothing happens when I activate the comms dishes and point them at the various relays. I'm frustrated and at a loss as to what went wrong. Any insights?

I guess you are talking about dishes on your sats?

a. Make sure you have chosen dishes with a large enough cone

b. The dish has to target a planet instead of a vessel. Only then it can auto-connect to other vessels within the cone

c. Make sure the launching vessel is also able to transmit data to the existing satellites (pointing dishes, have the range for omni-directionals)

I may be side-stepping the real issue by pointing out the obvious, but the screenshot of your network is from the tracking station... there is no "Active Vessel" when you are in the tracking station.

Try targeting the LKO Commsat Array directly instead of using active vessel (or your next launch vehicle since I am guessing this one has "successfully" returned to Kerbin.)

I seem to have gotten it working by pointing the synchronous satellites at Kerbin, but it raises the question as to what does targeting the Active Vessel even do? I would assume that it tries to connect with the craft I am currently controlling, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Anyways, I think I figured it out, thanks for the help all!

It tries nothing really, it looks if it can reach the active vessel -directly- and does so or not.

For me this really is only for ships in transit. As soon as you reach your destination, contact should be established by targeting the planet/moon from Kerbins satellites and targeting Kerbin from your mothership/com-sat before you initiate any probe activity. The width of the cone of your dish may be a problem here though.
