I´m circumnavigating Kerbin on a Rover - Completed August 24, 2014

If you want to do a circumnavigation without flying, the only way to do it is by boat. Me and two or three others have done the journey, and we have a thread for it as well, but I can't look it up right now since I'm at work. I'm sure a quick google search will find it though =3

Anywho, going around 120-150 m/s most of the trip will take between 10 to 13 hours. Way better than 52 hours, if you ask me =P it was quite a rewarding journey though, I definitely recommend it =3

I would love to see that thread, sounds like an awesome trip. Did you managed to take any screenshot or video? All in one sit all by yourself? did you saved the game often? What happened when you reloaded?

Mechjeb now has a route ability in the Rover Autopilot... you can make waypoints to the places you need to go and what speed you want to go.

Mind you, there's a lot of hills and what not, so your rover needs to be very stable and very fast!

I have the intention of doing this vanilla, no mods to alleviate my autoinflicted pain, and maybe in the process prove myself wrong and doing it with mechjeb :D

About the only route I see that doesn't send you into several kilometers of deep water is around the north pole.May not be exactly the spirit of the challenge, but it's really the best you can do.

I think a trans-polar route is the right way to do this, all the maps seems to show this is the most probable way. And yes, is inside the spirit of the challenge, I want to circumnavigate the planet by rover starting in the KSP space center and end there.

The 52 hours figure is kinda frightening... Water is probably harder to build a vehicule for, but at least, since it's completely flat, it could be automated. Oh, and if you made a speeded up video of your whole trip, that would be cool.

I had this precise idea after watching the latest episode of Far Lands. Mind you, I´ve never liked that particular series because the rambling and the ranting, only watched a couple episodes, but something clicked in my head watching the latest, I was thinking hard about KSP and what to do with it and had it running in the background just to have some noise. And KA-BLAMO! Stupid idea!

I have a youtube channel with a few vids and of course I want to record my efforts toward the most ridiculous goal I´ve ever set for myself in a game, but on the other hand I lack the voice chops Kurt has so it would be nothing like his series "Far Lands or Bust", not because I think it would be cooler or better, is because maybe mine would not be as entertaining or clever. We´ll see. Thanks for the suggestion!

Although his talking is often interesting, I don't watch it on a regular basis. I don't have enough time for that.

What you indeed could is to do what someone proposed - film the trip and then speed it up. You could cram everything into a 10-15 minute video. Just be sure to keep the view steady during the trip because you don't want visual mess at high speeds.

I was developing this thing for fast travel, you know Rover wheels are not suitable for high speeds, this thing Works almost great, still it has some problems.

I like the model you proposed, it seems to be insanely fast, have you tested it?

Go by rover it is. As you might spy some easter eggs on your round trip expecially at the top of the world.

I expect to find a lot of terrain bugs, testing around the Space Center teached me not to trust my eyes, I´ve found myself tumbling and rolling and jumping and exploding in flat surfaces, colliding with invisible walls and climbing nonexisting hills.

Fun!

I plan to do quick sessions of half an hour and then compress them into 4/5 minutes videos. Who knows how much time it would take me that way but I don´t think I have the stamina or the patience to do 3/4 hours sessions of pressing "W".

I´m not going to narrate anything, I don´t have any kind of voice suitable for that and my native language is spanish sooo... nope, no voice recording. Short videos with some free music and some text highlighting whatever seems important, that´s all.

Follow-up to my previous post: seems like FPP would suffice already for water crossings. Choose where to cross though, since crossing the water will be painstalkingly slow (7.6 m/s during the testing)

Cool design, I really dig it... 7.6 m/s ugh!

Gentlemen, the bolded statement here proves that Scott Manley has two accounts! :)

Any pics?

Lol, and I consider myself to be better than Scott Manley in some areas... XD

Also here's the thread for water circumnavigation, if anybody is interested: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/25016-In-search-of-Ferdinand-Magellan

I was just about to ask you about that! I plan on doing a circumnavigation myself. I haven't decided on whether or not to fly, but I have decided to visit all of the anomalies. To the OP, travel by sea, and aim for 50+ m/s. Your life will be much better for it! Oh, and please consider some mods. They make these voyages viable.

Wooks, are you doing this in Career mode, or in Sandbox? If it's Career, and you haven't done the science for every biome on Kerbin, now is a VERY good time to do it. :D Just make sure to pack along enough Mystery Goo containers for each biome. (Should need 12 total, if you count the runway and launchpad as well and haven't gotten those)

You just want to do my life more misserable, don´t you?
