Arthur C Clark

What would Arthur C. Clarke, proponent of geostationary sattelites for global communications, for whom the Clarke orbit is named, make of KSP?

I think he'd wonder why sattelites aren't more useful in the stock game.

Otherwise, I think he would love it. Don't know if anyone remembers it, but Clarke did star in the Sierra Rama game, seems like he was pretty positively disposed to computer gaming.

I was going to say, he'd install Remote Tech 2, and setup a KSO satellite network.

A few days ago, I heard a story on NPR about Clarke. I had no idea he left England for Sri Lanka due to homophobic persecution, what with Alan Turing's suicide after his prosecution.

(Turing was a war hero who helped break the German's Enigma code, and created the conceptual foundation for the modern computer. Also the Turing Test was his idea)

Neither did I. And I've read so much of his work. He was always very easygoing about human sexuality in the books. Was that censorship? Self-censorship? Was that how he dealt with the democide of his peer, Turing, by making light of the whole subject? It fills me with so many questions. They are unfortunately political, and like religion, we dare not continue in this direction.

lol.

He was ahead of his time, so I do not think he would be very surprised.

Someone read some of his books? which are your favorites?

I read:

Rama Complete Saga.

Song of distant earth (my favorite I guess)

Childhood's End

The Hammer of God

The Light of Other Days

The first Rama novel is great. The others didn't sit well with me.

The Fountains of Paradise is great. It describes the construction of a space elevator.

Don't tell me you didn't read 2001: A space odyssey and the sequels?

That is what all people told me.. no I dint read it, of course I watch the movie.

But even that it is a highly recommended book, I dont know.. I never had enoght impulse to read it.

The first rama book is an story more indepent of the secuels. the other 3 work with different character in a continued story. I guess my favorite is Rama 2. Is a shame that the so expected rama movie produced by morgan freeman is still searching a script play.

If I found Fauntains I will read it some day.

This is the book you said.. Also my favorite in the series. Such great idea to explore a gas giant with a hot "air" ballon.

A similar list to yours. Songs of Distant Earth is my favorite book, not just of his, but my favorite book. Rendezvous with Rama was good, as was Childhood's End. I liked the book version of A Space Odyssey better than the movie version because it actually has a decipherable ending. The rest of the Odyssey series I got the impression he was just dialing it in. Is it plagiarism if you're copying a chapter from one of your own books into another?

Childhood's End is often put forward as his most important novel, and 2001: A Space Odyssey was a "novelization" of the movie, though the movie was based on his earlier short story "The Sentinel" (which was a good read). My list would be:

The City and the Stars

A Fall of Moondust

Earthlight

Rendezvous with Rama

The Fountains of Paradise

I'm not sure he'd be as impressed by KSP as he would by the machine it was running on, and how the content was distributed to it. Like many of his predictions, he was spot on in predicting that computers would become networked machines, and that this connectivity would in fact become their main purpose.
