#EDIT: This was the core lander, during a shakedown run:

Wow! over a Kiloton of Rocket fuel in a lander.... Eek. That was supposed to get to orbit, or another planet even? that beats my plane by a factor of 10 in rocket fuel. I will however note that it would have some serious stability issues in FAR, unlike my plane.

Anyhow, to my post:

I present to you the Applied Phlogistics Aerotitan an entirely stock 77-passenger interplanetary spaceplane launched with FAR aerodynamics.

egYfGzt.png

Nearly an SSTO. Not quite. It uses four BACC boosters to get it off the ground. It seems like taking off horizontally would be difficult if not impossible with something like this.

The first prototypes were what I call and "MSSMTO" or Mostly Single Stage, Mostly To Orbit. That is, it lost about 35 tonnes on the way up by accident but still got to orbit. Missing 12 engines assymetrically, a command pod, several intakes, some fuel lines, some wings and more normally doesn't get you to orbit, but in this case it got there even under monotonous unplanned disassembly with fuel to spare.

The thing has a surprisingly high Delta-V after reaching LKO. Under the best-case scenario with the launch, it might be able to get 2000 m/s out of all that rocket fuel.

It weighs about 330 tonnes at launch and 200-260 tonnes or so in orbit. Only about 150 tonnes dry.

It carries an amazing, maybe even unprecedented for Pseudo-SSTO Spaceplanes that use stock parts and FAR, 77 Kerbals in internal seating to orbit and beyond.

It also has two of each comms device and 7 docking ports of all in areas with no nearby obstructions. 4 are Junior, 2 are standard, the Dorsal 1 is senior.

1 note is that despite having nearly 800 kg of monoprop, it has no RCS or non-cockpit SAS. I dread to see the sort of thing that IT would dock to. What? A 2000-tonne spacestation? Does anyone even make those? Well if they do, I'm sure they can send a fuel tanker with an orange tank that happens to be docked there out to feed me fuel.

So yeah, 77-Kerbal, 330 tonne wet / 150 tonne dry pseudo-SSTO spaceplane. that can get over 100 tonnes of fuel into Orbit.

Whole thing is about 350 parts.

Allright, it's time to make a full post of my biggest practical rocket to date, The Type Nine Titan Fueler.

This rocket lifts a nearly 300 ton Fuel ship into LKO with an exceptionally reliable launch. The photo gallery shows a full launch from ground to 135Km round orbit. (!25-180 is my "docking orbit range).

I built this ship around a month ago and, not counting than the occasional launchpad physics breakup, it has only ever failed once in about ten launches. There are no mods used for this ship, and the fuel craft reached orbit in this demonstration with around 19,500 Liquid Fuel, as well as around 1300 monopropellant. It operates on 6 LV-Ns which means it can get itself anywhere it needs to be.

I originally had a HLV for RSS capable of lifting 60 tons, but then a couple of days ago the save file got corrupted, and it took the craft files with it :/

For several days I tried to rebuild something with equal payload capacity, but they just kept dismantling themselves, usually on the launchpad.

I was about to give up when, by magic, I stumbled upon a design structure that did not offend the mighty kraken.

And they I added some MORE fuel.

And then I added boost power!

This thing weights 3500 tons, burns 18 tons of fuel per second and generates over 10 million pounds of thrust.

But it can only launch 80 tons to LEO, which highlights how much KSP components are crap compared to the real deal XD

  • 1 month later...

Here is the largest stock rocket I've ever built. It weighs 3500 tons on the pad and lifts a 360 ton space station up to 120km in one piece. About 1/4 of the time. The other 3/4 it explodes. It has 965 parts and my computer really doesn't enjoy it.

What mod are you using that allows 36x symmetry? Also can you put the link of that N-1 cause it's just awesome

I think that's still a WIP, also that 2000 part rocket would make a regular computer implode.

Oh ok but is there a link for that WIP or not yet. It would just come in handy for me when I decide to make huge fairings on my rockets.

also that 2000 part rocket would make a regular computer implode.

I think my computer can handle it cause I've built a 2260 part rocket before, however I had to launch with mechjeb because each game second was a real life 2 min.

The N1 file got corrupted. Can't add or move parts to it. KSP then crashes.

Red robin, I suggest that instead of making the whole skin out of the small structural panels, you should leave the first, second and third stage domes like they are right now and on the rest of the skin, make it out of the larger panels. It would look less round but it will lower the part count a lot.

I guess, but I got a link to my 800 part smaller N1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz5dXxgdW-KyME9wWmpwNnEwRzQ/edit?usp=sharing

It has MechJeb on it. Some pics:

Also, the big N1 craft file is corrupted. It is not where my CPU is lacking, it is how KSP handles large parts.

I love these wonderful creations!

Alas, I have a measly Q6600 and 4GB so more parts than 400 are almost unplayable for me.

But I installed Procedural Parts, the successor of Stretcy SRB, still in development. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/70676-WIP-Procedural-Parts-The-next-phase-of-Stretchy-SRBs

This could very well be the ultimate end for asparagus staging. I made this monstrosity as some sort of personal tech demo, using only Mansails. Couldn't be bothered to use Procedural Fairings on this one. Mods used in this construction: B9 strut, Procedural Parts. Other important mods: KJR, FAR. Part count: 401.

Today on a whim I added the Hangar Extender plugin and used it for an exercise in absurdity (by my non-Whackjobian standards anyway).

And this here is a teaser for a thing I have in my head that I'm considering trying to make into a real mod:

Dunno how many of you have played Space Engine, but it turns out the ships in there are way too big to use in KSP. Nevertheless, I'm thinking of porting in some of the parts in "mini" versions.
