Lock parts selection.

I'm having a lot of frustrating moments when constructing delicate small probes which is quite complex and compact. *SNIP*

To cut a long tale short, I want a feature which allows me to select a part and lock it in place in connection to other parts (so that I cannot move it, disconnect it or otherwise interact with it). I do not want a mod, I don't want a plugin.

I'd prefer no smart comments, quite on edge right now having lost 3 hours of work from a mis-click which I couldn't reverse or somehow fix.

I've done that too suspect most have, best thing I have found is to place what-ever missclicked part somewhere and hit ctrl-z but I've screwed that up too, so now I save frequently so I have mk1, mk1a etc. versions of my craft, handy if you need to go back a few steps too. But a lock would be nice especially for those times when you get so involved you forget to save. Another option would be a timed sequential auto-save that you could set to say save a numbered copy of your ship (starting at 0) once a minute (and a way to easily delete the extra copies from within the program would be nice, like when you are finished or at a milestone you save the official version and click the delete all auto-saved copies button).

I feel your pain. It is altogether too easy to misclick and mess up something that took hours of work to assemble. And it does seem that the smaller the thing, the easier it is to mess up. I've learned, very much the hard way, to save early and save often.

I'm not sure that you're going to see this functionality introduced into the core game, as it is a bit of a fringe case and is preventable with the existing save mechanism. Any reason a mod/plugin is unacceptable? Because I think that's a more likely way for this to happen.

Oh my goodness. It's normally acceptably small in terms of avoidability/annoyance, but is anyone familiar with KerbPaint? Holy frick. You can click parts through the mod UI, and it kills me.

I agree with you, I think photoshop have the answer, part layers would solve this problem, if you don't have idea of what is layer in photoshop, its groups of actions saved individually, So change in one of the doesn't effect the others, it can be done in KSP e.g. I would lock/hide the layer to ease the job, on other thinks.
