Windows 8

At the moment I am posting this on Windows 8. I was wondering if anyone in the KSP community had acquired the developer beta and what their opinions were on the new system. I personally enjoy the metro theme, and the integration into the windows 7 interface. I also enjoy the particularly fast boot times.

To me, it just looks like they went 'Uh oh, apple is making interfaces. We should add some stupid, useless, phone-like thing to compete!'

Ergo, I hate it.

I feel like the new UI was an unnecessary step. It\'s like your Start Menu, but pretty-fied.

True, but I am friends with one of the guys who makes that interface. Its ok, but is mainly there so that tablet pc\'s can be supported by windows 8. It looks cool, but is NT 6.2 which is a bummer (esentually its an upgraded vista, like windows 7). I have mixed opinions about it, and I might skip this windows, as I have 1 windows XP and 2-3 windows 7 pcs.

Don\'t give a shit about what the explorer UI looks like, there are plenty of people that will find ways to customize and change it. What I care about is the tablet side giving the x86 hardware an full, actual operating system instead of the gimped down dumbphone/'tablet' OSes you see today (Note: Symbian and Windows Mobile will be used as reference 'smartphone' OSes. Android is instead listed as 'adware tier, inefficient Java-BS' dumbphone OS).

Ergo, go Intel, I want my x86 phone that lets me do stupid shit like running Virtualdub or (if somehow possible) rendering an UXGA image over a hour in Solidworks somehow. Keyboard and stylus a requirement.

I like the concept of Metro, even on the desktop (though it\'s obviously intended for tablets). An interface that starts doing away with the WIMP paradigm and puts more focus on typography is very interesting to me. I fear that it won\'t be used decently, but that\'s always the risk with this kind of things....

I\'d really like to see Metro evolving into a full blown zooming user interface someday.

Unfortunately, the developer preview is terribly slow in virtualization: my VMware machine was unusable for any serious work, so I deleted it very soon.

What he (or she) is referencing is that Android is a copy of Ios, written in a less efficiently code sold for free by the developers (google). There are some unique features about it and that\'s it. Thats there point of view.

My point of view on android is although its a less efficant code, it takes half the time to code anything in Java compared to Objective C. It is also cheaper, and (will) have more apps, even thought there is enough apps to last someone a lifetime on the IOS. The main perpose is to promote the google search engine, and it does it well.

Ios doesn\'t need hate, but then again, things that get cult followings usually get hated (MLP). Its good for what its ment to do, be an phone OS that everyone can use. Its a horror for developing for, but is good.

Windows Phone 7 I am partal to, but thats because I have tryed making games for it.

NOW EVERYONE GET ON TOPIC.

I have an ASUS EP-121. Since it is one of the machines Win8 is being written for and tested on (in house), I\'ll have a go when it\'s ready. Provided that is, my DAW and VST\'s play nicely with Win8.

I don\'t know what all the hoopla is over Win7 not being any good for tablets... Win7 is *very* nice on a touchscreen only machine.
