Obstructed hatch: Options?

I made a stupid mistake in my space station core and placed a light on the hatch to the PPD-12 Cupola Module capsule. Jeb is now trapped.

Are there any options here to get Jeb out?

If you are feeling dangerous you can open up the debug menu (Alt+f12) and use Whak-a-Kerbal to try and destroy the light. WARNING! Chances are good you will destroy everything in the process so quicksave first.

if you have KAS, you can EVA another kerbal to remove the light. I have to admit, I don't know how I managed before downloading KAS, it made EVAs a whole lot more useful.

If you're comfortable manipulating files, you could edit the persistent.sfs file to remove the offending part. (Be sure to quicksave and/or backup first, just in case.)

Or you can just leave Jeb "on duty" in there as long as you need the station.

I have to agree with the KAS option. KAS is totally awesome especially if you're building space stations (strutting across construction docking ports, adding-removing lights, adding chutes if you forget them, running fuel pipes from rescue craft)

I thought about both of these. There is a docking port on top and I could just do a little parachute thingie...but I try to be at least somewhat realistic in my space program, and the pod doesn't have a heat shield. If it was anyone other than Jeb...I would probably leave them on duty "forever"; but c'mon...it's JEB! ;-)

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll carefully open the persistence file and then try KAS. I had looked at KAS a while ago but it was kinda out of date...looks like it's back being worked on again.

Funny you mention realism, then go for hacking the persistence file.

If you want to go for movie kind of realism, then deorbit the thing out of focus and wait till Jeb respawns after being "missing" for a while. Because he's Jeb so he'll definitely find a way to survive.

I get the dichotomy - but in a real world, I think the guy that was told to weld the light to the hatch would have gone "wait a minute". Everyone has to kind of set their own realism bar - I try to build realistic rockets (no Rockets of Doom, cheat parts, etc.) and run a realistic program...but in a Kerbal Universe, sometimes Kerbal Problems call for Kerbal Solutions.

I had almost the same problem, but with a reusable lander. I now consider KAS invaluable.
