Idea: Mini-Ethernet

The other day, I was in a hotel with no wifi, just an ethernet port for laptops. I was kind of mad that I couldn't use the internet on my Microsoft Surface (yes, I have one).

And I had an idea. Mini-Ethernet. A special connecter about the size of a Micro-USB port, that could be inset into tablets and smartphones, and would allow people to use wired connections on those devices.

I will attempt to build a proof-of-concept device out of an Ethernet cable and Micro-USB connecter, to send data over an ethernet->micro-USB->ethernet cable I will be making.

If you have any suggestions or tips on making this work, please feel free to contribute.

I agree with Orbits. The point of USB was to get rid of lots of different ports wherever possible, and we still got enough of them, so introducing new ones is the entirely wrong direction.

Oh, so they can be used that way. I didn't really understand the point of those until now.

Nevermind about this thread.
