Note taking...

Recommended Posts

I first looked upon taking notes as silly, but later figured it could be helpful. I just can't find what to take notes on. I want to have some sort of record of my flight path or something but i'm not very advanced in delta-v and trajectories and such so I can't make precise number notes. Any tips?

Telemachus can record and display most of the things your craft can do.

Personally though i like to use a notepad and a pencil in more of a check list type style.

Including things like activate SAS,

Reduce throttle to 1.1G when going 110M/s (preferable under 1KM),

Set nose up to 75 degrees at 200M/s (around 7KM) and

Increase throttle to 2G at 10K (260M/s)

Once i have a flight plan and check list draw out its very easy to spot where and when things are going wrong.

If you do it this way you could save your crew by aborting before something gos very badly wrong.

Using Telemachus can show you all of this but unless you have a co pilot to monitor it all then it probably wont help very much.

The Wiki has a section about kerbins atmosphere and optimal speeds that is probably more important than understanding delta-v.

Another option might be to get Kerbal Engineer Redux it has a nice selection of information you can display both before and during flight and is easy to use and install and you may find it useful when building ships to figure out how much ∆v you have (you can figure this out by hand and you might want to but it gets boring pretty fast) and lets you experiment a bit and see what works best. As you're flying just hit Esc jot down your notes and continue on. An example might be the current terminal velocity readout which saves having to look it up in a chart and extrapolate for your particular altitude and can help you get the most out of your ∆v. It also has various trajectory info and so on. One other thing that comes to mind is one of the freeware sticky notes programs you could put it off to the side and make your notes right on screen, I'm pretty sure these are available whichever OS you're using.
