Looking for a MIDI composer Software

I was a massive fan of Fruityloops for a long time. Before that I used Cakewalk. In general, Cubase is highly recommended, two of the bands I was in used it, though I never went down that path myself.

If you are purchasing software, VST support is an essential feature. I can't think of a soft-synth offhand that doesn't use it.

The magazine Computer Music features a lot of free software on their coverdisks. You could have a look through their online archive: http://www.musicradar.com/computermusic/category/software/

Well it sounds good but i forgot to add more info, Im looking for a freeware for composing (I have heard MIDI compositions of megaman themes and thats my inspiration and the reason i was looking for this first), And even if i cant find a MIDI composer i was also looking for a software that had realistic Instruments, just like famitracker! (Im bored of using it because im really bad for 8-bit music)

Aaaaaand... Im a newbie at this but i wanna learn! :D

Just had a look at Famitracker, takes me back, i haven't used anything like that since OctaMED on the Amiga.

What I think you are looking for is some kind of sequencer. You should be able to find a free vst-compatible one quite easily. Once you have that there's a whole world of free vst plugin instruments and effects to explore. Finding the right package for free may be a minor issue though - you'll probably find that commercial packages have larger communities and are easier to find tutorials for.

Anyhow, good luck!
