I'll keep this short:

Build and fly an aircraft using the following route:

Takeoff from runway 09 (normal WE direction), fly around the outside perimeter of the KSC complex ONCE and complete your lap by flying around the West end of the runway, when you reach the takeoff position again, fly past the hangar, turn RIGHT, head directly for the research complex and fly underneath the footbridge. Exit the complex with the reactor immediately to your right, then turn left, trace your flight back around the perimeter and land in a EW direction (runway 27).

See the image below for a rough outline of the route (sorry, my freehand sucks today):

One run of the course, ANYTHING goes. The idea if the challenge is see how controllable an aircraft you can build. We've done cars to death, speed runs up and down the runway *are* fun (so are kart races around the complex, I won't belittle those!) but I wanted to see if I could shake things up a little.

RULES:

- Your aircraft MAY NOT touch the ground once it has taken off until you land and come to a complete stop at the end of your run.

- Maximum flight altitude for this race will be 200m (subject to revision). Peek above that altitude, your run is ended.

- Your aircraft MUST carry a Kerbal throughout the flight.

- ALL PARTS AND MODS VALID.

- NO Infinite Fuel or Gravity hacks. OP electrics mods OK but good luck with those, I hear they're heavy!

- VIDEO PROOF ONLY.

RULE CLARIFICATION: VALID PARTS FOR THIS CHALLENGE: ANY part mod (except for OP engines or "look how much fuel my Sport Billy bag can hold" tanks), thruster, VTOL engine, RCS pod, fenestron, hover assist... anything goes, bear in mind you're aiming for a highly controllable aircraft here.

Scores: (F3 MET on landing)

LEADERBOARDS:

ANYTHING BUT ION:

1. Horn Brain in the Gnat Mk.II, (0:53). It's another sub-minute lap - wings time! 1625535_413888192080517_957929609_n.jpg

2. Darren9 in the modified Hammerhead, (0:59) (first to do it in under a minute! Have some wings! 1625535_413888192080517_957929609_n.jpg)

3. Horn Brain in the Gnat Mk.II (1:11)

4. Darren9 in the Hammerhead(? I like the name), (1:29)

5. Horn Brain in the Gnat, (1:37) (interesting use of parachutes...)

6. Rhomphaia in the Eaglehammer Mk.I-J, (2:32)

7. m1sz in the BAT-VTOL, (2:40) (with quite possibly the most insane sideways bridge crossing ever!)

ION:

1. Batz_10K in the RMQ-1 Dragonfly, (7:43)

(challenger's note: I've just done this in an infiniglider chair thingy, but am unable to upload my speed run as my capture software is being a 'tard. Or I am. It's doable, I've done it, trust me. I will get a video done and upped eventually, promise!)

nice!!!, im on it rightnow :D

Video is rendering. Done it with my BATVTOL beast, it's quite heavy and pretty big, but I was able to do it under 200m (HARD) and under the bridge.

I agree, but I like Formula K races too.

I would do this, trust me, I would, but I can't air and I can't space. I can only ground. Too bad.

I urge you to allow screenshots. Probably just half of players have PCs that can record video and smoothly run the game, and only 1/3rd of them have or know how to find good recording software. Then only half of them are gonna be willing to record, upload, etc with multiple takes and editing needed to make the timing work.

My general purpose B9 VTOL plane, the Aerwal, doing it in 2:00 in FAR. Sorry for nighttime flying, set to 1080p fullscreen if you want increased clarity.

You may also note the DYJ Gatling guns. I didn't bother to remove them.

nice plane, but...

1. you cut on the outlap, both the runway and part of the major complex.

2. you cut over the research complex after you passed under the bridge.

3. you cut on the inlap, the same bit of complex you cut on the outlap.

so, DQ'd.
