VTOL Duna SSTO

Recommended Posts

After a lot of failed designs, I've finally managed to create a vertical takeoff and landing, single-stage-to-orbit plane. It has no part clipping (just some cubic octagonal struts to mount the engines and intakes), it's 95 parts, and in my opinion it's awesome.

It's capable of flying to and from Duna without refueling, although its fuel budget is pretty slim.

I'm really proud of it because this craft is really an honest VTOL. It doesn't take off from its tail or anything strange like that, and it can also land horizontally in addition to vertically.

Thanks for sharing that plane, Andrew. Of all the things I've built, I've never managed an interplanetary SSTO. Your video seems jacked up at the 5:13 mark. Maybe it's just me. One other thing: I'm slightly hard of hearing, and found the music in your video too loud to make out your voice easily. Sorry, just a lil' gripe of mine. :D

Woah! You're totally right about the video being jacked up. I'm uploading the video again - it was an error on YouTube's part. Also, thanks for the feedback on the music volume. I'll be uploading with reduced volume.

Dang, very nice! I'm still struggling to get a true VTOL working myself. This is making me not want to give up :P

Don't give up, I tell ya! In my opinion one of the funnest parts of KSP is designing VTOLs and spaceplanes!

On a serious note, I really liked your video. It was presented really well and very professional. :)

Thank you! I did my best. :)
