Multistrike Challenge

Kerbal Military Concepts has tasked you with the design and deployment of a large bomber capable of transcontinental flight and delivery of multiple payloads, to include gravity bombs, cluster munitions, and unguided rockets.

THE CHALLENGE:

Build the largest plane you can. Deliver your payload to the proving ground at INLAND KSC (20N 146W) from an altitude of between 750-2000mASL , and return to KSC.

THE RULES:

- ANY parts mod valid.

- FAR valid.

- NO exploits, cheats or OP parts/engines (you know what OP means!)

- Minimum payload: 6 gravity bombs (drop and forget) represented by an FL-T200 fuel tank each, six cluster munitions (to be represented by fuel drop tanks), six unguided rockets (either RT-10 SRBs or KWRocketry Globe I SRBs (yes I know the motors are offset from the axis!)). Gravity bombs must be carried inboard (in an inverted cargo bay or purposed bomb bay), cluster munitions may be carried inboard or on wing- or fuselage-mounted hardpoints/decouplers, SRB rockets must be carried on wing-mounted decouplers.

- Service ceiling must exceed 10,000m

- Level cruise speed must exceed 300m/s

- Minimum crew: 2

SCORING:

Takeoff Weight: 1 point per tenth ton (eg an 89 ton aircraft scores 8 points)

-1 point for every 20m/s takeoff speed (eg that 89 ton aircraft needing 160m/s to take off would actually score 0)

1 point for a weapons load deployment (per munition) on target

2 Points per designated "hit" on KSC 2 buildings (for "hit", read: direct impact and explosion that can be clearly seen from the air)

10 points for making the outward trip

10 points for a return and landing (valid only upon completion of outward flight to KSC 2)

LEADERBOARD:

1. ihtoit in the Behemoth-52, 4 points, crashed 8,000 feet up the side of a mountain.

Challenger Proofs (updated as and when):

The Behemoth-52: TOW: 81t (+8pts) TOS: 90.2 (-4pts):

(Moved the descriptives over to here - complete with .craft file!)

Actually hit 28,000m before all eight engines flamed out simultaneously and straight into a flat spin, at which point I had to pick my moments to jettison the munitions and try and regain control. Not before losing six engines, though. Coming in for an emergency landing on the side of a mountain:

...No!:

...So shy of 20 minutes flight time, I guess I was about 90% of the outward journey done (albeit slightly(!) off course), needless to say my Kerbals didn't survive :(
