Sounds and Visual FX Overhaul for Kerbal Space Program.

Hey guys and gals, I'll obviously be sprucing this page up when further in development.

Basically, I think KSP could do with a good sound and FX overhaul, especially for atmospheric engines, separators and the like.

I'm very early in development and any help is greatly appreciated, as I have no experience scripting modules e.t.c. (I'm just an artist!)

Here's the sounds I have come up with so far for the atmospheric jet engines. Wondering what you guys would change about the sounds. Note: Turbojet doesn't reach full thrust on surface, so full thrust would be louder.

It's a fine idea, but I should point out that Element K is potassium. Perhaps a different name? Unless of course you like it that way.

P.S. Basic jet needs more bass during the "run" cycle. I like the way the stock ones have that little "ENGAGE!" noise when they get above 10%, so it'd be nice to have a similar sound in your pack.

The K is for Kerbal hahaha! But I guess Potassium works too :P

I have another sound file to be used as the deep bass on high thrust, however I do not know how to add it yet, as I can only seem to get one 'running' sound to work at once. the other sound is the power sound, which is the airy sound you hear, but that changes with the throttle and not thrust.

Finally, aircraft engines don't sound like whistles! That's my biggest peev of planes. These sound so much more impressive, though the basic still whistles a bit.

I'm planning to add an extra bass rumble you here on jet airliners at high throttle, however I'm not sure how to add a second audio file to the same 'running' effect.

This is looking (sounding?) very good so far. The current stock engine sounds in my game have a slightly noticeable loop, but it seems like you've eliminated that problem. The engine start up and spool down sounds are perfect.

What are your plans on releasing this? Are you going to allow other mods to implement your sounds, or is this just for stock engines?

I would really love this to be combined with that mod that adapts sound to where the camera is located (behind the craft = sound, in front = no sound). That realism combined with these great sounds would be exactly what KSP lacks.

Not sure of which mod you mean, and I have tried it... doing this for the likes of aircraft in Flight Sim X was really easy, however KSP is totally different and I am lost lol

For now, stock. Currently, the way I am using effects modules for the sounds has removed the visual effects... I need to work around that first.

Oh right that mod! Haha! The sounds there are only changed due to the sonic boom cone, also interior sounds are merely muffled and the pitch changed. I'd rather have specific sounds for the IVAs, so I may need to develop a new plugin.

What is the source of the sound files? They remind me of FSX, did you port them from there?

A couple are from FSX, the rest are from surfing the web. I found FSX's sounds to be a little too drony at times and you could hear the loops. I based the engines on the FA-18 FSX and the RB211s from YouTube haha! Then the sounds were tinkered with on audacity so there's hardly any background noise.

How are you implementing the sounds? If you use the new EFFECTS {} thing in the config, you may be able to get multi-layered sounds. I'm testing that right now...

EDIT: No dice on that. Looks like it's still confined to one sound per stage. Needs a plugin to work, either Firespitter or a custom job.
