[DISCUSSION] Mod suggestion attitude

Ok I have seen this occur all over the forums across numerous different topics but is most common in the suggestions sub forum.

What happens is that someone creates a thread with either a suggestion or a question about a feature or lack there of. Standard discussion follows until the point where someone pokes their head up and says "Hey, here's a mod that could solve your problem". Or "Hey, if you edit one of your configuration files like this it would solve your problem".

Upon doing so said user is mostly met with in the best case circumstance ignored (mostly).

My question is why are such suggestions and solutions met with such an attitude. As I see it the thought process of the person posting the solution is "they have a problem, this is something that they can do right now to fix it". So why are these suggestions met with such resentment?

And as a side note please do not turn this into a mod vs stock flame war, the electronics don't like the heat.

For some it is easier to be angry and bluster over-top of a fault or error, than to admit you have made such an oversight or error. Critical self assessment and reflection can be hard.

Some people are only looking to vent, and not for an answer, so an answer can be perceived as an attack against their reasons for being angry, i.e. the answer is perceived as an accusation that their anger is invalid.

i kinda have a love hate relationship with those. sometimes its "hey cool i need that", and other times its just plain condescending and rude. so in those conversations what i do is just say that i already use those mods. so when someone quotes me with a mod suggestion, it just makes them look like an idiot that knows how to post, but is somehow incapable of reading anything but the thread title. the fact that a mod is available is a valid point in a discussion, but when that is all you have to add to the discussion, it just becomes clutter.

If you're talking about the stock game Suggestion forum then I would say posts like "there's a mod for that" can sometimes come off as rude, especially if it's just a link. It's a suggestion/discussion as to what should be in the stock game, not a request for "what mod will solve my issue?". Perhaps if the "there's a mod for that" post were phrased something like "That's a good idea. In the meantime you might want to check out X." such posts would probably be viewed in a better light, but most of the time internet people can't seem to find time to be polite.

Elsewhere on the forums I can't say.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
