Return from eve

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

i tried several weeks gettin back from eve to kerbin in carreer mode.

I build a lander wich is pushed to eve by atomics.

The lander has a delta v about 8500 m/s to start and gettin in an 150km orbit.

My atomic stage is still waitin in an 150km orbit of eve, too.

I always land at 25° S; 158° W in an height of ~7500m.

But my 8500 m/s seems to be not enough gettin in an stable orbit.

How much delta v i need to get in an orbit of eve? 10k+?

Please share ur experience with me :)

According to this Delta-V Map, it takes ~12000 Delta-V to get to low Eve orbit (about 107km). Your lander is lacking quite a bit once you account for a safety factor of oh, I dunno, probably about 1500 d/v would be a good number.

I personally don't even want to attempt Kerbin-Return Eve landers for a loooong time.

I'd reccomend just experimenting with different ideas, maybe take a look at Scott Manley's Eve designs! It's definitely possible, but I'm afraid I can't offer more help than this.

You should have enough dV to take off from that height. I recommend grabbing kerbal engineer redux and adding a chip to your ship in the VAB. In the expanded view you can change the planet to Eve and check things such as your dV in atmosphere and your TWR. For my Eve lander I made sure my TWR never dropped below 1.2

Edit: And for ascent path I go straight up to 30km before starting to turn to get out of the thick atmosphere.

You can reach the lowest orbit (107 km). Make your turn between 20 and 25km. here is my experience.

I used Kasuha design for my lander, it's a very big one because there a lot of sciences stuff. Since, I built one which is twice lighter....This design is very efficient.
