Yup, Little Big Planet is fun. Limbo is quite atmospheric too.

I bought my PS for Dust 514...pretty good shooter but whatever you do, stay away from their forums. They are like the Hulk compared to KSP's nice community.

Mass Effect 3 is probably ok too. It's not super gory and totally ok if you like scifi.

GTA5 rocks...but yeah...can get a bit gory

It really depends on what you're into.

The Assassins Creed games are a good bet if you're into open world adventure games though be aware that III is the weakest of the series, the Uncharted series are more linear but the level design makes up for it. Last of Us is probably one of the best Zombie games released for the system, but be aware that it's exceptionally brutal.

The Ratchet and Clank games are great as well. Far Cry 2 and 3 are well worth your time.

There's also been a couple of excellent HD remakes of older games. My favourites are Kingdom Hearts and Beyond Good and Evil.

The best thing is that most of these games are available for very little money, especially if you can buy used.

Well, I should have said this in the OP, but I like free roam-ish rpg games, some FPS games, and I might also try portal as was suggested. Also, however, I haven't tried to many different types of games. On the PC all I played was civilizations, minecraft, kerbal space program, and Lord of The Rings Online.

I think you can get Okami on the PS store these days - totally worth a look. Think 'Zelda' , but you're a wolf, whose a god, in feudal Japan, in gorgeous artstyle and you fight by painting.

It's ace :)

For FPS, I can heartily recommend Borderlands (1 or 2) - it's especially good when playing with friends.

EDIT: Oh, and for open world, exploring and 3rd-person shooting, there's always Red Dead Redemption, but I can't remember its rating, sorry.

EDIT2: Edit Harder: JOURNEY! Amazing little game, pretty open, good puzzles, very much recommended.

I wish I still had my ps3:) Anyway I will only list some of the sony exclusives as most other games you can get on xbox or pc...

'Heavy rain' fun and original but I cant remember the classification

'Uncharted' 2 and 3 are AMAZING. think Indiana jones

'everybody's golf' If you like golf games, this is sooooo much fun! I never got bored of playing this with friends... Id get a ps3 back just for this ahah. they made a new version recently.

'Little big planet 2' already mentioned by previous poster however this is a must have game.

Not an exclusive but " John Crichton" recommended you Mass Effect 3. This is one of my favourite game series of all time, but I would definitely start by the begining and play ME1 then ME2 before 3 ;) ANd ME1 has recently been released for ps3 as part of a trilogy set. ME has such a powerful emotional story it will make you cry and make you happy in such a way games rarely do....
