Stupid LV-N Question

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys,

I am not capable of checking into KSP right now but something dubious came to my mind. :)

Does anybody know how much the Fairing of the LV-N weigh?

Or do they not add any weight at all to the engine?

I have whitnessed These fairing to knock off parts of my Rocket. Batteries that were installed right next to the fairing unter a 2.5 m tank to be precise- So they must have a weight.... right!?

Thanks :)

Correct, the engines weigh the same before and after removing the fairings (in a similar situation the fairing added by a decoupler to a normal engine has no weight). The fairings discarded by the LV-N obviously have some weight as you've noted but since it didn't come from the engine I'd say they where seperate entities that where just spawned and given initial velocity.

LV-N fairings have no mass. As for their ability to knock crucial bits and pieces off of ships, I've taken to not putting anything below them -

You'd be amazed at how stable that long girder/girder adapter combo is when it comes time to connect it up to the booster. Nothing attached to the bottom of the nukes means no shrouds, means no boom.

I have heard of ways you can actually direct how the shrouds eject such that they annihilate each other before they annihilate your ship, but I've yet to use any of those methods successfully.

Yes, I usually place my LV-Ns (and some fuel tanks) radially using struts. I use at least 3 symmetry so I never have problems with stability. Of course by doing this instead of stacking them, there are never any fairings and their attendant ability to damage something.
