Just an idle thought. I was flying over Kerbin and saw a textured, yet pretty much featureless, bathymetry exposed by shadows in my early morning takeoff. I would love it so much if Kerbin and other planets could be retextured with solid geological concepts in mind! Hmm...

I think this applies to every map ever, books, movies, games... When you learn tectonics you can't help but seeing the mistakes. However I'd imagine that'd be a huge challenge, and it'd change Kerbin as we know it...

I couldn't agree with that any more. A realistic-looking Kerbin would be awesome, but that would be so difficult. :(

It wouldn't be that difficult. There's a rudimentary plate tectonics-based map generator by Laurence Mann on Sourceforge, and a thread on Gamedev.net.
