Solar Orbit

Recommended Posts

My mind just got raped by the amount of awesome in these pictures. I could never even think of dreaming stuff like this up! As for the Serpinski bug, ah well, what can you do?

Funny you should ask, I found out today that it is possible to land on the KSC terrain after the Sierpinski bug has started.

So I guess I completed this challenge as part of that attempt at the 'shoot for the sun' challenge linked above, which is also a solar orbit challenge but it entails orbiting with a PE half Kerbins altitude at least once. Makes returning even trickier.

Here is a screeny of the stock parts ship, proof of orbit and landing as my entry for this challenge.

I completed this challenge as part of the 'Shoot for the Sun!' challenge. I placed myself in a 5.8 billion meter by 13.9 billion meter orbit (periapsis with Kerbol under half the distance between it and Kerbin) with a period of 3/5ths that of Kerbin\'s orbit. After 3 Kerbin orbits and 5 orbits of my ship -- 317 days of mission time, and 9.5 months after my last correction burn -- I intersected Kerbin\'s SOI with a periapsis of 5 million meters. I then burned into an aerobraking orbit and touched down safely on the surface of the planet.

The main thing is to make sure that the solar orbit you put yourself into has a period that\'s some easy fraction of Kerbin\'s orbit. If you do that, you\'ll get brought back to the planet automatically!
