The concept is simple. Mods for Kragrathea's Planet Factory have been (with a little exaggeration) flooding the mod release forum. My suggestion is to make a sub-forum only for those.

Forum > Add-ons > Add-on Releases and Projects Showcase > Planet Factory systems

It would give PF mods a better chance of getting noticed, and they wouldn't inevitably flood the forum.

While I can, and always will see some benefits of having sub-forms for particular KSP modifications, it does have the potential to cause problems, which make it unlikely to happen. This is because displaying preferential treatment for one particular modification will open up the doors for many other requests for sub-forums such as for kOS, and its derivatives; MechJeb, and its endless support threads and RT2 to name but a few. We would ultimately end up with so many sub-forums that there would, in the end, be no benefit at all. What is the solution to this? Well, if we look at some of the larger KSP modifications, then we can see that some have created sub-reddits, which I personally think is a reasonable solution.

You'd still end up with the same problem Rich described, not to mention the fact that if you create a lot of (sub)forums you quickly lose oversight of the forums as a whole and it becomes a giant tentacled monster known as the forum kraken. I think we have plenty of forums already :)

If we start doing this we'll have requests for all sorts of subforums for different types of addons. Definitely not going to happen, the forum is fine this way.

A subforum for mods which add part, and one for mods that don't?

I disagree very strongly with people saying it's a bad idea to have subforums for mods of mod because of favoritism - just do it universally - if there is a mod that is a mod of a mod, then it just gets a subforum automatically regardless of the size of its audience - there. No Favoritism. And it would make forums a lot easier to search for users trying to find mods - you see the first-level tier of mods first, and don't see mods you can't use without other mods until you're looking at those other mods.

The only argument against it that I might agree with is that it probably won't actually be a tree structure and therefore can't be represented by forums with subforums with sub-subforums. The first time you encounter a mod that is dependent on TWO other mods, rather than just one other mod, it can't be represented by a tree structure anymore - which of the two mods is it a subforum of?

Subforums for any mod that are decencies to other mods would be rather annoying IMO. I don't really want to scroll through a list of 30+ subforums every time I want to see the add-on releases forum. Besides, this would make people miss a lot of great mods simply because they don't want to check out every single subforum.

Or - Subfourms for different type of addons -

Parts

Plugins

Planets

No favouritism, just different places. Helps navigation, and organization. Lets say you just want Kethane, and don't want to wade through 3 pages of parts to get to it. If the mod is based around a plugin (Kethane, Interstellar, Mechjeb). Goes to plugins, planets go to planets, parts (KW, Fasa) goes to parts.

I take the exact opposite view. I don't want to have to slog through several hundred forums, many of which contain dependencies not mentioned in the title without opening the forum and reading the post. If there's 5 mods that are utterly useless without 1 mod, then I'd like to just see that 1 mod first at the top level of my search. If I don't want that 1 mod, then the existence of the other 5 is meaningless to me.

The sheer number of mods makes it hard to use the forums to find mods you like, and all the sites that do try to categorize them by type, like Curse, don't contain all of the mods like the forums do.

The only problem is that it's not possible to represent mods that depend on more than one other mod with a tree structure.
