Reaction Wheel Nerf

It would be nice if reaction wheels could have gyro saturation, as well as only being able to provide torque in one plane. Seeing a reaction wheel that is obviously flat and in line with the hull pitch a spacecraft upwards for minutes on end is very disconcerting.

I don't really support the idea. Yes, the implementation is not extremely realistic but KSP is a game and it is supposed to be fun and reasonably simple.

1/ there is no guarantee each torque part contains only one reaction wheel. The ASAS unit model suggests that, but that is the only part where we can see the inside.

2/ there is already some kind of gyro saturation as you cannot make your module spinning at any speed with torque. At certain limit it will stop accelerating.

I didn't know that. Do you know if it just stops working at a given rotational speed or does it get gradually less effective the faster you spin?

just another "let's make it harder for the sake of making it harder so new players will get more frustration and give up" idea.

This.

Don't get me wrong I understand some people want more, but that is something that should be left as an optional extra via modding.

I don't agree with the "only torque in one plane" suggestion for playability reasons. But I think capsule torque should be made weaker.

Back when "reaction wheels" were "SAS modules", I always put at least one my ships to make them more controllable. But right now I just don't need them anymore. On smaller ships the capsule torque is strong enough to handle everything and on larger ones I use RCS. Maybe that's just me, but reaction wheels feel kinda useless to me.

However, if torque (capsule torque at least) were to be nerfed, it would give them a purpose again, it would stop capsules being able to breakdance (maybe), and it shouldn't be too frustrating for new players, considering in past versions, to get any SAS at all, we'd have to attach one anyway.
