though I hhighly doubt Sketchup will be able to reimport it properly (without being nasty with curves)

I'm pretty sure that sketchup is fine about importing DAE files.

I'm not entirely sure if the following issue has been addressed, but I've noticed that the hatch on the crew capsule has a latch detail with an "OPEN" text in relief.

Currently, it looks like the text is actually modelled in - I would strongly recommend depicting such minor details using normal maps rather than actual geometry. An example of this technique can be seen in the hatches on my FusTek parts.

just letting ya'll know that this isn't discontinued, I just lost faith and self-belief regarding the project.

I feel it is extremely daunting and hard for one person to do by their self.

I am good at modelling and Ideas... but nothing else
