uhm I kinda want to start my own mod too (just a parts pack full of random stuff that i think would be funny to have or what i think the game should have) but unity isn't on linux :/ is there any other modeling software out there?

also i'm no artist i mainly steal stuff from the internet for textures (see the Cargo bags and tanks mod by AlbertVDS (i think that's it) i did my own version of em with textures from other people :P)

if you could help me out (since you did FASA and those awesome launch towers) i'd really find it helpful ^.^ thanks.

For 3D Modelling, Blender might be on linux. I'm not sure though.

Blender does indeed work on Linux. If memory serves (I only used it briefly many years ago, I stick to Maya nowadays) it has quite the learning curve. Just stick at it though, and you'll see just how fun 3D modelling can be.

AU$TIN, Google; you'll need it very often.

First, get Blender and Unity.

Add a cube in Blender.

Move it.

Move it again.

Extrude the top.

Move it to the right.

Extrude that.

Rotate it.

Go to Unity.

Put PartTools in.

Add PartTools to your model.

Add physics collider.

Export.

If you can do these things, you've taken your first steps into this. I'm not gonna help you with that too much, 'cause then how will you work on your own? Google, it's a tool, USE IT! :)

Austin,

Given what you have told me so far about your ideas (in a PM) I think you would be better off looking to use or extend other existing mods, especially as you clearly lack the skills to (re)produce the functionality that already exists. Based on what you have told me so far about your ideas, I think that you need to come up with some better ones if you want to claim the role of the "ideas man" in the team you are hoping to form.

people will also probably appreciate it if they could know more about you, maybe you could tell us more about yourself, like what skills/skillsets you have for making mods (programming experience, 3d modelling experience, texturing, stuff like that)

people tend to like to follow competent people, so show them you are competent so that they will follow you.

however, if you have absolutely no experience in modding, then perhaps you should try make a few simple mods by yourself first to gain some experience/skill (to be honest, if you do not have much experience with unity or at least c#, then it really is best to just request/suggest your idea to other modders)

try think of it this way, why would the other modders need you on their team? you need to provide a reason for other modders to want you on their team, or else, why should they even care about you?
