Part sizes question

I just need a little help with the diameter of parts.

Is the standard for parts:

.625

1.25

2.5

3.75

5

6.625

7.25

8.75

10

11.625

12.25

13.75

15

Or

.625

1.25

2.5

3.75

5

5.625

6.25

7.75

9

9.625

10.25

11.75

13

13.625

14.25

15.75

I would like to know because I'm thinking of making my mod parts fit with other mods that use standard sizes, such as KW and AIES.

If they follow the early established pattern, neither of your lists is quite correct. You need to take an integer and multiply by 1.25. So it would be:

(0.5) 0.625 (yes I know isn't in integer, but I believe it's the exception that is causing your problems)

(1) 1.25

(2) 2.5

(3) 3.75

(4) 5

(5) 6.25

(6) 7.5

(7) 8.75

(8) 10

(9) 11.25

(10) 12.5

(11) 13.75

(12) 15

Another question, what's the tallest part that would fit into the VAB with room for a crew pod and a 2.5 half tank with an engine? Or station part?

IIRC, you don't need it to actually FIT... At least to fit the VAB height. Your lower stage width is a thing you should worry about when building a several kilotons monster. Launchpad is not that big, you know.

For those interested I did some measurements on the launchpad with scaled stock parts. I found that the biggest cylinder that will barely fit on the flat area of the launchpad is 22.5m. Thats quite big. But if you wanna be realistic the area of the launchpad that has the exhaust "hole" (where the rocket exhaust is supposed to go) is around 18m. Tho i was easily able to put something bigger than that on the pad and still have it stable. Biggest i tried was 30m.

Tho the vab is more difficult with big parts. The biggest part i found to be somewhat easily managable in the vab was a 12.5m part as long as it is not more than a 1 to 1 height/width ratio. Preferably only 0.5 to 1. Generally i would say those super wide parts are ok as long as they are short. And only stacked on top of eachother. Otherwise they will easily go outside the launchpad bounds and the sides of the vab + become hard to manage.
