Constructables

As part of the career mode it would be nice to see some static things you could build, such as upgrades to KSC or a moon base that could be built in stages. For the moon base this might entail hauling a number of containers of "parts" to the build site, and waiting while construction occurs. The base might then have a few different upgrades. For example:

a parts recovery facility that could collect & refurbish landed parts.

a VAB that would allow parts brought to the moon to be built into new spacecraft

a refinery or fuel storage that would allow these craft to be refueled

It would be interesting to unlock things other than parts in the tech tree.

There was some hinting that the space centre might start off significantly more primitive that it presently appears, advancing in some fashion to it's present (or perhaps even more futuristic) appearance during the course of your game

Perhaps you'll need to research your ability to research, or spend funding to upgrade buildings

Personally I really do not like the idea of Moon bases that cannot be destroyed when you mess up a landing. That is part of the risk involved.

We have to make some compremises if we want really big bases.

In this case, it's having the base survive a crash.

Besides, if you mess up the lending in such a way, you already break the lander. It's not like everything involved is static

I'm sorry, but I actually dislike the idea. I don't see it fitting in with the other aspects of the game. What would be cool though, would be welding parts like docking ports on EVA.

I just suggested this be added to the welding mod.

I think this is pretty long term as far as the current development schedule goes, but maybe long term, after minable resources. I think if anything, you should have to build and launch off-world assembly systems yourself, rather than static magically appearing bases. There could be foundry module that draws resources and current to make parts, and an assembly pad/gantry for constructing things in orbit or offworld. I've also seen some really cool things with kerbal attachment system. Just as game mechanic the ability replace broken or forgotten parts, weld struts and fuel lines on EVA could really, really make things more interesting.

One of the old CM mentioned quite some time ago something about building stuff like runways on other planets. However it was just an idea about what could happen in the future so maybe it has never been actually planned to be in the game.

I would love to see come kind of construction outside kerbin, orbital hangars, permanent bases and things like that.
