Nearly ended in disaster quite a few times, I must say.

Who know 20km/s dV was barely enough without orbital rendezvous around the moon?

I lost some fins when SRBs decoupled, Lost my solar panels so MJ didn't work after I toppled over on the moon, nearly ran out of fuel. An all around eventful kerbal day in the utmost of kerbal ways.

A quick trip to the moon ended up taking 110 days... sorry Kerbonauts.

That's probably why NASA didn't use Direct Ascent.

I bet that was a scary -yet funny- mission to do!

Well, that may be because he departed on the wrong side with little delta v and had to look for a good gravity assist window he could afford.
