Does Anyone Think We Need More BOOOOM Animations

When we changed the engine a while back the explosions seemed to get cut back. There used to be the extra smoke for example like in Xacktar's sig...

Nowadays my booms just aren't as satisfying... I just want more BOOOOM to my buck.

I agree, explosions should be upgraded again. After all, explosions are a big part of KSP!

Explosions... such a crude word for what is merely an accelerated release of energy.

Technically since the new engine and particle effects are more mod-friendly, people could potentially make their own.

I think I read about people in the mod-development-corner already discussing it - but either way - Explosions are just like KSPs Sounds still placeholders and meant to be overhauled one day.

Other than that - I think I could even live with the current explosions. I would imagine some additional effects to be badass, though: Fires and visible damage (via decals, possibly?) on debris and crafts. But only if they could be made in a manner where it wouldnt stress the Computer too much

Ya know, the twisted side of me, on more than one occasion, has wanted to write a mod that made catastrophic failures look more or less like firework-factory fires. With lots of colorful explosions and whistling noises

The main issue is probably performance.

We all lamented the lack of beautiful volumetric smoke and explosions, but cutting them down to flashes of light was necessary for performance reasons.

As a person who has used the unity engine for ~3 years I can give you a few reasons why the "nice" explosions were taken away.

1 : devs say it was cpu/gpu intensive.

2 : I know that those explosions weren't even made by the devs. Its a free unity package in the asset store that you can get named "explosion framework pack" as I recall. I suspect, that although they didn't say it, they wanted to avoid copyright.

Not to say I don't like them, but those are the underlying reasons why...

btw : in the package, they included mushroom clouds (what nukes make), and you could set the explosion force to about what it would take to make a mushroom cloud.....

Just for kicks, I've always wanted to write a mod that causes explosions to become like something rigged by a professional pryotechnician. Colors, whistling noises, crackles, etc.
