My Little Pony Megathread

Ok, I\'ve got a very difficult choice to make. Story is in the spoiler.

Backstory: I am a college student, away from home for my first year, and a true brony. My parent recently discovered that last fact, and do not like it. They think I\'m doing it as a troll, grabbing attention and trying to freak them out. They have the basic arguments of 'it\'s a show for little girls' and 'it\'s immature to watch kid\'s shows as an adult'. I tried explaining that it gives me an escape, but they said that the same can be used for drugs. They then warned me about the consequences of my reputation for watching this, and that they think I should stop.

Now here\'s the real kicker: I love and respect my parents. I take everything they say heavily, and I don\'t think there was ever a time that after giving em instructions I stood them in the face and said no. When they say they are concerned for me, they are really concerned for me. They have been beside me my whole life, and I do not want to lost their support.

I need answers. I need people giving me options on what to do, arguments for or against choices, and how to deal with this crisis. What I do not need is people saying 'yo f*** your parents it\'s your decision'. I need truly intelligent responses for liking the show, and what I should do.

Well, not to say f-- your parents, Altair, but you\'re in college. You\'re eighteen at the least and your tastes in entertainment are no longer the concern of your parents.

Moreover, you don\'t need to look very hard to realise that things aimed at children are not, in and of themselves, bad. Have your parents ever enjoyed a Disney movie? Aladdin? The Lion King? Wall-E? Toy Story? Maybe Dreamwork\'s How To Tame Your Dragon? What about the sudden revival of superhero movies? The Dark Knight earned more than a billion dollars, for example, and whilst TDK is hardly aimed at children it is still, at the bottom, about a man dressed like a bat whose comics were for decades very much aimed at the young-teen market.

The objections don\'t seem very well-founded. Of all the things in all the world that they might object to or be concerned about... it\'s stories about friends? Stories without the least trace of mean-spiritedness, stories that have none of the forced cynicism that pervades so very many other productions? In a world where 4chan is a thing, where you can watch dismemberment on the nightly news, where people get executed for dressing the wrong way, ponies cause concern? In college, where the potential pratfalls range from drugs to alcohol to suicide to burnout to pregnancy, they\'re concerned about a cartoon. A G-rated cartoon about learning how to be friends.

That\'s not reasonable and that\'s not rational. Yes, MLP is aimed at little girls and nobody is going to deny that, but you know what? Who cares! The animation is still excellent, the plotlines are still well-executed, the voice-acting is still top-notch and the characters are genuinely memorable and likable.

Any evidence to support this fact? That\'s awful selfish if it\'s the case.

Well, here\'s the thing: They\'re still linked in his sig, but they\'re not accessible any more. Either GoDamnit nuked them himself, or a mod did it. Perhaps imdying might know?

I see no reason for either to\'ve happened but heaven knows a lot of stranger things have occured. Shame though-- I was looking forward to the fixed Kerpollo parts and was wondering why I hadn\'t heard anything more about them.

I know that I\'m in college, and I can make decisions on my own, but I have a relationship with my parents that very few own, and I don\'t want to screw it up over anything. Thank you for the well-thought-out points. I\'ll see what they say to this.

Have you considered not discussing the topic with them? Simply keep this part of your life private.

Also, comparing MLP to drugs is a leap of logic the likes of which I have seldom witnessed. Just sayin\'.

I tried, but in a family as large as mine very little is kept secret.

Seems so. But if he\'s gonna be like that, fuck him. This forum doesn\'t need people like that.

What the FUCK

Not you, Nova.

And to think I respected him.

Another one of those 'internet must be pony free' jackasses, I guess.

Despite it saying 'not you nova' it took me a few reads to realize you weren\'t talking about me.

This is what I would do. Actually, I do this for the most part.

my sister and I watch the show sometimes on youtube (she\'s 16, so she isn\'t an excuse to watch it ;P), but I just never really tell my parents.

They wouldn\'t care much if they knew/understood what it was, but still.

My dad is convinced I have a Japanese fetish for some reason. I have nooo idea where it came from, but that\'s what he thinks >_>

I just don\'t bring it up, don\'t bother with it. As long as it isn\'t a problem, I don\'t see the need to gossip about such things, be it an unreal fetish or being a brony.

My family is pretty large too. Just don\'t discuss it, and act like you\'re done with it (around them).

It sounds kinda two-faced or hypocritical, but there are boundaries in every relationship

I think I\'ll do what Ydoow suggested: don\'t bring it up again, and just head back to the closet.

:P I think it\'s the best choice so long as it keeps you happy.

The main thing in life is to stay happy. Not much else matters considering we all die in the end and nothing matters past that point.

Good brony.

And if people think that MLP p0rn is the only kind of cruel cartoon transformation you will see, you are wrong. Theres alot more out there, out there in the interwebs...

Good luck coming back alive.

Curiously googling.

Not even once.

Good brony.

That\'s how we do it at Blockland Forums.

Also

Over at BLF we don\'t post pony stuff outside the pony thread.

Any attempt to do so is immediately flamed.

We had a horrid troll called Lørd Tøny posting borderline MLP r34 in the Hot Anime Girls topic.

Now.

Back to ponies.

I use it as it\'s a cool set of emotes.
