Huge Rover - Kethane Krusher Mk III

Recommended Posts

TL;DR: Scroll to the bottom for the good pics!

When I found the Big Wheels mod on Spaceport a few weeks back, I knew I needed something HUGE! Thus, my largest Kethane explorer/miner/refinery/habitat was born. It's not a rover - it's a city on wheels!

Dry Weight: 138 tons

Wet Weight: 440 tons

Launch Vehicle: 1136 tons.

Mods:

Big Wheels

B9 Aerospace

Surface Lights

Aviation Lights

Engineer Redux

Infernal Robotics

Kethane

KAS

KW Rocketry

Ubio Welding

A lot of pics and brief descriptions! Hope you all enjoy.

On the pad.

It actually flies! It took some (as in a lot of) effort to get the CoT aligned with the CoM.

Filling the gas tank before heading to Duna.

Fuel Tender shoving off, and saying goodbye.

A view from inside the cab, prior to aerobraking.

Coming in hot! This is Death Valley, so named for the dozen times it took to nail the landing site.

I kept over or undershooting the valley, with disastrous results.

Finally got close enough, but still broke all of the wheels. Forgot to grab screens. =(

Deploying the drills.

Drill, baby! Drill!

A sense of scale.

Looking on from above.

Where does Old Betsy go? Anywhere she wants!

30° inclination? No problem!

Yes, there are four Aerospikes for retrobraking. It is the Kerbal way.

screenshot783.png?psid=1

Can't get too freaky with the rockets, lest catastrophe strikes!

screenshot787.png?psid=1

Enjoying the scenery.

Jebediah's self-contained mining empire.

screenshot790.png?psid=1

When Jeb saw the breadth of his domain, he wept, for there were no more Kethane deposits to conquer. Well, we're not quite there, yet!
