I've killed poor Jebediah...

Apparently one cannot 'ride' the capsule during decent...but it seemed like something a kerbal should try...in the name of SCIENCE of course.

I've made a few flights of ever increasing heights, but no orbits yet. I figure walking myself along via career mode is smart since I can't just strap 45 rockets together and light a match.

My only issue is occasionally it seems like the stages don't work right, like last night I added 3 boosters to my "Jebediah 2" spacecraft (since he is dead, he gets a line of rockets named after him), and two peeled off fine, but the third hung on like a hungry tick, despite having a decoupler for each, this sent poor Bob going in loops until the forces sheared off that booster and then he was able to go to space, somehow surviving.

All the tutorials and YT's are a big help...I'll figure this out, Mun or bust.

Welcome

Nice to see you jumped right into the Kerbal way of life. I doubt there are many people here who have never tried to EVA a kerbal during decent (or accent).

On that note, they usually do manage to hang on once the parachute has fully deployed.

And Jeb has a tendency to always manage to find his way back for more.

Good luck on the Mun. Don't forget Minmus, it's easier to land there because of the low gravity (while Mun is easier to get to and orbit)

Sometimes Decouplers glitch out and don't separate, but you can fix it by using different ones.

There are four different radial decouplers and if linear decouplers are not working, then you can use separators.

Hi! Welcome to the forums! I hope you will enjoy your stay.

To get into orbit (provided your rocket has enough fuel)

Burn straight up until you reach about 10000 meters.

Tilt 45 degrees, until your orbit apoapsis in the map mode reaches around 100000-20000 meters

Stop burning, warp until you reach your apoapsis

Burn prograde and circularize. :)

My measure of avoiding separated stages from glitching ( and killing your Kerbals :( ) is to

attach sepatrons facing outwards from your rocket so it ensures that your separated stages

won't cling onto your rocket like a hungry tick and exploding your rocket. :)
