Multi Monitor Support

Recommended Posts

Extending KSP across multiple monitors would greatly increase its immersion and, with at least three monitors, enable players to simultaneously see their IVA, external view, and map view.

I don't have three monitors or anything, but that sounds like an incredibly awesome way to play KSP.

This suggestion is dangerous to me as I'd either have to buy more monitors or be jealous of those who have them.

You're correct. It was not my intention to post a broken link.

The link should have performed a subject title search for the words Monitor and Support. It gave multiple results, all from within the last six months.

The issue with this is the GUI. While it's a good GUI and I have nothing against it whatsoever, it would be impossible to use with an even number of monitors. One half of the navball would be on one monitor and the other half on the other monitor. And the altitude scale would also be very difficult to read. Then there's construction - it starts in the middle of the screen. The whole thing would just be split. An no matter what camera you use, the craft would be in half when flying it unless you do the whole middle-click and drag thing. As much as I think it would be great with an odd number of monitors (say, for example, 3 or 5), an even number of monitors would kind of screw you over a little and probably get frustrating.

Therefore use oddly-many monitors. You could also have separate screens for separate purposes; e.g., one for flying and another for the map.

No that's splitting across monitors, which can actually be done without changing the game by simulating a single monitor with extremely high aspect ratio. No this suggestion is not that.

What we want is the ability for the game to utilize multiple displays for extra content - such as map view on one and stage view on another. You could even view two camera angles at once for docking, or have one screen watching a very long burn while the other is at the VAB designing a new rocket. The possibilities are endless.

I see now what you mean. That would be pretty useful, actually. I'm all for it now!
