Need a good interstage fairing.

Ive been toying around for awhile now trying to fit a perfect interstage fairing to my Saturn V. The shape is easy.. the texture. Not so much. Ive downloaded StretchySRBs ( though im not using procedural parts yet im waiting for the release. ) and Blackhearts textures.. even his extra fairings do not have the texture that resembles the SV. And Ive seen it.. many time before in other users screenshots. Just a checkered black on white fairing.

And then beyond all that.. whats it take to be able to make my own textures for procedural fairings? Photoshop? Or is there a .. cheaper way?

Also.. a bit off topic, but I figure ill kill two birds with one stone.. decals. I saw a mod the other day, but I forget the name. It supposedly had decals/vinyls you could stick on your rocket. Any word of this mod and its functionality?

The checkered texture is in Realism Overhaul. Fairing textures can be made with any image editor--the free open source alternative is GIMP (or GIMPshop if you want a PS-like interface).

It's called Velcro, IIRC, in the Releases forum.

What's the deal with the alpha channel on all the .tga's? Can I disable it, edit the texture, re apply the alpha channel and save? I'm trying to take the stock procedural fairings and make all kinds of different flavors. So I imagine ill have to make a new set of parts with the new textures. Meaning ill have to copy over files, rename them and edit the cfgs accordingly.

Alpha is usually used to set specular level. (Sometimes, like on parachutes, it sets transparency) You can try deleting it, and if the part looks weird, put it back.

Look at the cfg for the fairings and examine how MODEL is used with a "texture = blah, blah/blah/foo" override. All you will need to make is your texture and a new cfg that references the texture as an override.
