Flag transparency

Recommended Posts

I have a question:

Do KSP flags respect transparency in PNGs?

The reason I ask is that with the flags appearing on various parts in 0.23.5, sometimes on a white section and sometimes on a black bit, it would be nice to be able to create a flag with a transparent background so you could, for example, have circular logo on the parts.

If the answer is yes, then, as a follow-on, what colour does the transparent colour appear on regular flags?

EDIT: Answer: Apparently it does, as some of the stock flags have transparent backgrounds. Will now have to edit my flag :)

Yes if you set specific colors to be transparent KSP does read those colors as transparent for that flag.

But "No Data Transparency" does not appear to work and will simply be replaced by white.

Here's a test I did where i colored the background green and set green as transparent.

As you can see on the cupola its transparent and on the flag its replaced by flag texture.

In the image editor.

In GIMP you may first need to right-click the layer and select "Add Alpha Channel", then all you need to do is select stuff and delete it and you'll get transparency.

I'll have to look into that. I'm still doing most of my image work in Paint. :)
