  1. Steam Build ID: 10752762 (Version 0.1.1.0.21572) Intel Core i7-8700K nVidia GeForce 3080 32 GB memory Launched a ship, approaching AP and set a maneuver node to finish my orbit, game froze and hung for a good minute or so before it started responding again, after getting a windows error indicating it was not responding and asking if I wanted to wait. It eventually responded, but when I touched the maneuver node again it froze again for minutes. This essentially makes it impossible for me to use maneuver nodes completely now (prior to the latest patch, there was no issue). Additionally, when I manually saved my game, the game went unresponsive again and froze for between 1-2 minutes receiving the windows unresponsive application pop-up. After a bit, the game began responding again. This also happened when attempting to reload my saved game the following day. Edit: Appears to be save specific. I started a new campaign and the issue doesn't persist there.
  2. I made it to Jool with a test probe and performed my first successful aerobrake! I threw together a small probe with just a bunch of science gadgets, 2 solar panels, an antenna and a battery and then strapped a ton of fuel to it to see what would happen. Jool wasn't my plan, but when I realized it might be possible, I gave it a shot and made it. There's hope for my future Jool 5 challenge attempt just yet!
  3. Well, I always come up with the really grand plans and never follow through. So I guess: I always start things and never f
  4. These are some awesome ideas. I must try this.
  5. My attempts to build an ion powered craft on Kerbin have all failed. Nothing exciting, just no lift at all.
  6. May your rockets fly straight and your explosions be minimal.
  7. I began my design testing phase of my plans for a Jool-5 challenge run. I'm trying not to look at what other people did too much and just come up with my own unique design. First step is design a low mass, small lander for the low gravity moons. Prototype was mostly successful when testing the ion engine in LKO and reentry into Kerbin. Next step is to send it to Mun or Minmus to test landing it there. My current concerns are that I won't be able to generate enough power to slow it down for a landing or that the solar panels will not be effective enough so far from Kerbol. Depending on how the landing on Mun goes, I may swap the ion for a small fuel tank and some liquid fuel engines.
  8. I usually use standard but I like the animation on the shielded one. I use that when I want style over function.
  9. My "flyby" probe for Dres turned into a "slam into the surface of the plane" instead.
  10. So I'm thinking Jool might be might next target since I've never been there, and I've now sent probes to Moho, Eve & Dres and manned missions to Duna. I'm also thinking that I should just go for broke and try this challenge on my first attempt instead of my usual send a probe cautious approach. Just so I'm clear, the ship can be constructed in orbit, correct? I could launch multiple stages and dock them together as long as the final ship leaves Kerbin's SOI as one piece?
  11. I built a new science ship for Mun/Minmus and tested a new ion probe. The ship works great. My lifter, circularization and transfer/moon circularization stages are all very well balanced. I could probably even ditch a tank of fuel on the transfer stage to reduce weight. The lander is pretty solid, except I put the landing gear facing out to the side instead of on the bottom. So it lands on its engines, then I tip it over onto the gear. I need to change this still. The ion probes work really well as long as there is sunlight. Landing on the dark side of a moon, however, resulted in 1 probe being lost due to an inability to slow down. The lander finished the job gathering more science and sample/EVA/crew reports. All in all I think I made about 1,200 science on the trip and now have access to the TNG so my probes now have a backup plan. Next step is to build an extraplanetary vessel that will send up a bunch of probes all at once. I'm thinking maybe I'll target an unmanned Jool mission with it and have probes for each moon.
  12. It's from Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's Zap Rowsdower. http://mst3k.wikia.com/wiki/Zap_Rowsdower EDIT: Curses, ObsessedWithKSP! You beat me to it. Leaving mine for the wiki link.
  13. I built a new rocket for a Mun north pole visit. It's enroute, and I'll finish the flight tonight. It's the first time I've tried to visit one of the poles outside of Kerbin. It's also one of my first serious attempts at leaving no debris behind. The initial SRB stage has sepratrons to drive them down faster. The second stage lift has 4 small SRBs attached facing backwards to drive that into a suborbital trajectory once decoupled. In addition, since I like things look somewhat aerodynamic, the tops of them each have detachable nosecones with sepratrons on them to fire them off into oblivion. I probably should've skipped the LV-N in favor of a more powerful engine for the transfer burn to Mun. Oh well.
