LES doesn't have a parachute...?

Recommended Posts

A trio of separatrons and a top-mounted parachute make a good (if ugly) LES for a 1-person pod. Theoretically. It depends on how many separatrons you need to get enough thrust to get the capsule away from the rest of the vessel that may still be under acceleration as well.

The LES is usually seperated after a safe launch, so you would be wasting a chute (in real life) and b. not have a chute to land the pod (yes, not applicable in every design, still ...).

I am also unsure if a part can have more than one staging icon/event?

I see ... I guess it's not cost effective to design a system to save only 1 kerbal ... hmpfh

Copy the part.cfg to part2.cfg in the same folder and resize/-name it to get a LES for the 1-kerbal pod? :)

Just use the chutes you've included to recover the pod anyway.

If there aren't any... Just what kind of a monster ARE you?

What he is saying is that with the Mk1 pod, radially mounted chutes are oversizes. But using the escape tower makes it impossible to yse the top mounted, in-line parachute.

Yeah, it's a bummer. Most capsule parachutes are actually stored in capsule. So when you separate the escape tower, the parachute have a path to deploy.

KSP isn't quite set up that way. But you can kind of fake it. :)

Consider career mode:

At the point that Mk1 pods will be launching you haven't unlocked the LES. You should be able to mount a parachute on the top, and two Sepatrons on the side of the Mk1. Setup your action groups, and profit!

RealChute mod has some inline cutes, but I do not know if it has one in the size needed for the MK1.

Current version has lots of sizes. You place the single part that is in your repository then when you go to configure it there is an option to change the size of the part.
