Do you use a hitchhiker storage container on long missions?

Anything with an interplanetary destination requires 2x living quarter room not including command pod room. So my typical interplanetary ferry has the Taurus seven-crew pod and in the section to the rear of the pod there's room for 16 kerbals (only due to symmetry issues, otherwise it would be 14).

Kerbal is like the toy box (or chest if you used to be a rich boy like me) where your inner child build and fly your dreams.

So, if a more realistic Space Program makes you happy, be happy. :D

And if kerbals don't eat, why does the Hitchhiker container have space for Snacks at all? ^^

I hae thought long about realistic accomidations for long ranged flights and tend to use the Hitchhiker as my core Command Module on any mission beyond the mun. I have a lander I use for long term missions, uses the Rovemax XL3 as legs and its large but mobile I use a hitchhiker as the command module with 2 MK 1 lander cans-----as quiet rooms------ so at least they can get away from each other if needed.

Forcing them inside Hitchhikers is cruel, they agree to extremely dangerous missions and you only let them enjoy the scenery trough tiny windows.

Just use command chairs, they have lots of room and let them see everything that happens.

I find this line of reasoning strangely compelling. :)

I either have a rule where i have 2 kerbals per hitchhiker, or i simply give everyone their own command pod and pretend it's a cryo chamber.

I also make sure my ships can "spin" in some way as to generate artificial gravity. It makes for some fun designs :)

My stations have hitchhiker modules, my interplanetary flights are generally combinations of excursion modules (Landers, rovers, atmospheric craft) and interplanetary craft, if I were planning on leaving an orbital station behind it would definitely include a hitchhiker module. Interplanetary expeditions do involve more crew carrying capacity than needed, whether for rescue capability, intended disposition (my current Eve Lander return concept craft has a four stage ascent system - and leaves a Mk2 lander can and essentially a base behind while returning a Mk1 lander can which is essentially useless and will be left in Eve orbit after rendezvous and retrieval of the Kerbal pilot and its stored science), mission flexibility.

I do use the Mk2 lander can in my interplanetary craft. Most interplanetary expeditions might leave Kerbin with 2 or 3 Kerbals, but have space for 5 or 6. Then return with just enough space for the Kerbals returning.
