Make The B9 aerospace pack an official mod

Recommended Posts

I love comments like these.

B9 is not a huge pack, it is big but come on people, unless you are running this game on a C64 then you should have the memory to run this game with the ATM plugin to manage. And to the other lazy person who said, "how will I ever find what I am looking for in all those parts". REALLY?!?!

Yes, B9 is huge. It contains 210 distinct parts (source: the B9 thread). KSP contains 181 parts (source: the wiki). By any sane definition of the word, B9 is huge.

I can see you have no decent argument against the notion that adding tons of parts creates a usability issue, because you went straight to name-calling and empty mockery. "REALLY?!?!" is not a counterargument to anything.

Not everyone is into spaceplanes. If B9 should be included, then so should KW or NovaPunch for the rocket people. Then there's just too many parts, both from a memory perspective and a VAB/SPH clutter perspective. We need better memory management and parts management in stock before we should consider adding large parts packs.

Leaving them as mods has the advantage of each player being able to tailor their game's parts to the style of play they like.

I love B9, but it's way to big to be an official part pack. And its aesthetics don't really mesh with SQUAD's.

My thought exactly.

Also... am I the only one who has this exact opinion on the 2 small plane cockpits? I mean sure, they look very cool, but they look like some super-ultra-mega organic advanced sci-fi alien technology which doesn't belong in this game! x-]

A model replacement would do... :-)

If someone is having problems sorting through 391 parts spread out in, oh what 7 different categories (command, power and fuel, control, structure, aerodynamic, utility, science) so 55-56 parts per area. Then that tells me they are just lazy. I can throw together a stock craft or a modded craft in a matter of minutes now that can achieve orbit without much fuss in searching for parts. I know what every part does, and how it works in my install. (see sig.) I have several more parts packs in my RO install that take my total parts count to just shy of 1000, and there is NOTHING I can't build with that number of parts.... except a working SSTO in RO but that is another problem all together.

As I said, I don't think B9 should be stock because it really doesn't fit into the current theme of parts designs. I love most of the parts and don't use many of the stock parts anymore because many of them are just fugly. But I do appreciate the stock game for what it is.

And yes I will call it how I see it, if someone is crying about a number of parts then they have one of two problems, weak will, in other words lazy or; Weak computer, which is no fault of their own.

FYI, I didn't go straight to name calling. But I did mock them as they deserved to be.

Hodo, it's not weak will or laziness to not want to page through hundreds of parts, especially since there is no option to organize them in a better manner or hide those you don't use. Part clutter is a pain, and causes a real UI problem. Load times are also adversely affected by increasing the number of parts in the game.

Maybe you're familiar enough with what is where in your install that you can instantly jump to the part you want; if so, good for you. That doesn't invalidate the bad UI experience others have when the number of parts gets large, or make them weak-willed or lazy.

Truth to be said: whole parts management UI needs to be reworked (or at least: improved) regardless if they add any new parts or not to the stock game.

Now, back to the topic: B9 - no, thanks. It's a bloat of parts dedicated to pretty much only one topic: Aerospace. And for many people (if not the majority) - it's one of least important parts of the game.

The UI in the parts catalog could be reworked, there is no denying that. But even when I first installed B9 and KSPX, it wasn't that daunting. Now I adjust each install that I get use, I drop cfgs of things I don't use, or no longer find a need for. Like most of the wings in B9 are gone to me, because I use P-wings for almost ALL of my wing needs. You can cut down, on your load times by trimming parts you don't plan on using or don't use by deleting the cfg file. But that is getting into more advanced things that most users don't want to mess with.

I don't think we necessarily need the B9 pack, but lets face it... space planes are vastly under-represented in the parts department when compared to rockets. We need something more. I like B9, but I'm not so attached to it that I think I couldn't live without it. Most of my "stock" planes have to have RCS from B9 because the stock RCS are clearly meant for rockets and look terrible on a plane.

There is no real alternative to b9. The stock wings are too limited. The plane cockpits in b9 are way better in sizes, capacity and iva right now and offer what stock simply lacks, although i agree that they are too scifi for a straight implementation.

Hangar bays are really something i want and I am not only talking about mk2 but also the bigger and actually usefull ones.

If there is an alternative mod id be glad to hear about it. But anyway those are the aspects i would like to see in the long term plans

Procedural Wings and Spaceplanes Plus are alternatives, but not as part intensive as B9.

Not sure if b9 is umrealustic in size. The space shuttle and buran were even larger. I am not saying we need recrearions of those, but i dont see why its unrealistic.

Hafe to try out procedural wings. Might actually be even better. Thx

Kerbin is, however, substantially smaller, as are Kerbals.
