Regain EVA jetpack control sooner

Recommended Posts

Often, with the designs I make, the Kerbal going EVA has a bit of a problem. Just as they appear they can spin off into space. They are not unconscious (does that happen?) but I cannot control them to turn on their jetpack and avoid issues for what seems like too long.

My request is to be able to have control over a kerbal that is spinning about sooner than currently. Specifically to turn on their jetpack and regain attitude control.

Sometimes this happens leaving a ship on a low-G body and I just ragdoll until I hit the ground.

It is particularly frustrating when you slip off a ladder and can`t turn on your jetpack for ages and crumple on the ground.

Is this the intended action?

Myself I would prefer being able to save yourself in a dramatic fashion during rover crashes.

Rover crashes, you spin off into the air and in a brave and quick act, turn on your jetpack and save yourself from the cliff you were (deliberately) headed toward...

Note, this is NOT a request for a more realistic jetpack. That would start a discussion I do not want here. Realistic or not, I`d like sooner control.

agreed. if i am eva at high speed and my toe taps the ground i dont want to tumble forever. if i ragdoll up a slope and get airtime, let me reactivate my pack please <3

Pretty much this. Less ragdoll time.

Unless of course your kerbal can be knocked unconscious but I`d like to be told if this was the case. I`m not against being knocked out but I`d like to have it be very obvious that is the reason I cannot reactivate my jetpack.

I agree.

Also, most of the times using planes I had to jump onto the wings and move to the cockpit. I made the Kerbal jump forward and his feet lightly touches the wing and he falls down like he got hit by a truck and fell off from the plane. :/

Definitely agreed, particularly in space accidents the time between when a Kerbal gets hit and time when it is able to use his jetpack again is way too long even if there are no further hits involved. That quite contrasts with their ability to stand up on land as soon as they stop rolling. I would not object to trading some delay on land for shortening the delay in space or during falls.

It would be also nice if an unconscious Kerbal changed his facial expression and perhaps closed his eyes to indicate he is uncouscious.

Maybe you can add the little statistics from the Astro. Complex to this.

The higher stupidity, the more clumsy, the longer ragdoll time there is.:D

I like this. Not often, but sometimes, being not stupid could save your life...

Once on Bop I tumbled and slid down a steep hill for EIGHT KILOMETERS! It was terrifying and frustrating that when I went over a rise into the air I couldn't hit R to activate jetpack to save myself (which would have been dead easy to do).
