So KSP has evolved. It has evolved from a simple rocket builder, to some very heavy math discussions. This thread: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/68502-WIP-Principia-N-Body-Gravitation-and-Better-Integrators-for-Kerbal-Space-Program have huge amount of complicated maths that make my brain bleeds from my nose. Now, those folks at The Science Labs subforum really wants to see some cool maths implemented, not some bunch of hard to read equations like this:

x^2+6x/3^x.

We want to see something like this:

gif.latex?\frac{x^{2}+6x}{3^{x}}

natively, instead of embedding pictures out from external website

With those easily understandable beautiful equations, everyone would love maths.... yay!

Some googling reveals this: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91545

The addon exists

The addon exists, sure. But it's also of rather low quality, and hasn't been touched in years. (There's also some technical reasons as to why adding this particular one wouldn't be as easy as it may seem, but that's beside the point.)

There are a couple of solutions that might work, though. I'll look into it and see what I can produce within the bounds of what we can do.

Despite bothering to come over to the thread and vote I DON'T want this. As Slashy said, he posted a wall of math this morning. Because it looked like roadkill he attached an explanation. Had it look like a properly-formatted mathematecial equation he probably wouldn't have felt it was necessary - and only mathematicians would have been able to read it.

As a programmer I've often taken a 'perfect and complete' equations from happy mathematicians and then spent days working out how to use it. There are just too many ambiguities and assumptions in mathematical notation (implied multiplication, operator precedence, 'standard' constants that aren't, meaningless variable-names, etc. etc.).

The codecogs editor looks nice but their method of implementation requires us to implement off-site javascript and, well, smarter things have been done in the history of IT security. What you /can/ do with the codecogs machine is generate your LaTeX code there, save the image it produces and upload it to imgur to include it in your posts.
