Can I make F2 hide everything except NavBall?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

When launching bigger rockets, during ascent stage my PC lags a bit, but i noticed that I can get 20+ FPS if I press F2 and disable all the UI (Mechjeb+Stock meters). I would be fine without them while ascending, but I need my NavBall for my gravity turn. Can this be done? (I dont want to be in IVA for this).

Now im just pressing F2 to check.

P.S. I probably have to much info on the screen using MechJeb, but I want to know everything....

Thanks

Can not stage in map mode as far as I know. You could use the toolbar plug in to temporarily turn off the items you do not want. Not sure if MechJeb is toolbar friendly or not as I prefer kerbal Engineer Redux myself.

If you're using one of the MechJeb readouts it might help just to close that for the ascent; I've noticed in the past that both MJ and Kerbal Engineer do impact performance a little if at least one of the 'panels of many numbers' is on the screen.

If that doesn't help then there's not really much you can do. The Navball no doubt requires more computing power to render just because of what it is (compared to the staging icons anyway).

So I created a custom MechJeb window, with all info I need, and removed others.

So what I have now:

Apiopsis

Periapsis

Time to AP

Time to PE

Real altitude

Inclination

Expended dV

+ all stages deltaV

+ maneuver assistant (to execute nodes)

Any other info that you keep on your screen, that could be useful? (i couldnt find electricity info in MechJeb, is it there?)

The horizontal and vertical speed readouts from the Surface Info window are very useful when landing.

I've taken to having different windows for different tasks. One for ascent, another for orbital maneuvers, another for landing. Another one for building in the VAB, with the part count number. I keep delta-V in its own window (with RCS dV added) as it takes up a lot of real estate.

I suggest dropping the delta-V readout. I don't know about MechJeb but it can slow things down with KER, since it's running a simulation of the craft's engines and fuel flow, repeated many times a second. For a launch you don't need it, you should know you have enough delta-V, and you can check how efficient you've been once you're safely in orbit.

I think I have nearly the exact same setup, except I included mass and don't have "expended dV." I also put the "+ all stages deltaV" into it's own window, for when I get those massive ships I can keep the windows split so it doesn't cover as much.

Personally I do like having the dV info available. It's not really an efficiency thing more than being able to look at dV left for the stage in conjunction with TWR.
