If our Kerbals refused?

If mine refuse I would say it it was part of a "safe rocket act" and signing up was mandatory, but if you did not sign up you would "penalized" by having to be the test subjects for experimental rockets. Those that partake in this reform act could choose, based on the level of their stupid, what kind of proven rocket they could operate, although there is no guaranty that these rockets are safe or able to complete their mission they are just an approved list of rockets. Kerbals have the right to chose; either they go into to space or they may go into space. Yet there are those who slip through the cracks as well who, due to circumstances beyond their control, have to use the experimental rocket against their wishes......although we are trying hard to make sure no one notices.

I have never, ever, in the history of me playing ksp, have I ever lost a Kerbal. And I never intend to start, but in the situation that one IS lost. It is to be immediately followed by planting a flag at KSC and 21 SRB salute, and the astronaughts receives a medal for bravely giving his life for science, the Mendel is giving to the widow (since its kinda hard to give a medal to a dead astronaught right?)

Kerbal safety is an top priority for my Administration.

Kerbal astronauts and given constant healthcare, adhere to hygienic standards, are well fed and exercise daily to maintain themselves in the best shape possible. They are all mentally and physically fit, healthy, young, and have no histories of pyschological conflict in any way possible.

Kerbal astronauts are paid upwards of $75,000 Kerbal Dollars per year, which is an substantial sum on the upper sale of the salary stick. Not that there ever was a salary stick, but think of it as a visualization. They have healthcare and have an restricted diet to keep them ready for any possible mission duties that may show up.

Of the entire history of the space ahency, only three a astronauts were lost upon reentry.

That is all.

Jebs an adrenaline junkie, he yells at me via chatterer if I add an escape system, Bill on the other hand won't fly without one. Bobs more of a Meh kinda guy he wants to know how much dV we loose with one. I end up often building 2-3 attached command pods with/without "safety" systems for these blockheads.

I've lost count of the kerbals who have lost their lives on my watch, usually due to my incompetence or negligence. I've forgotten mission critical equipment, launched them on untested rockets that fail dramatically, messed up maneuvers and crashed them. There wasn't always the safety net of Revert Flight and Quicksave, before they came along my casualty rates were shockingly high.

But I have never killed one deliberately.

Kerbals are the heart of my Space Program. Sure, I do unmanned flights sometimes, but I don't consider a planet visited or mission accomplished until a kerbal has done it. I respect the courage, self-sacrifice and lack of foresight and common sense they display when they put their lives in my hands. So I always do my best to keep them alive and always have a return plan (that even works sometimes).

Not lost any on my current career in 0.23.5. In my previous 0.23 career though, I did lose three and two got stranded for quite a while until rescue came.

The first to die had a mysterious accident as he was attaching a KAS fuel line to his ship by a Mun Kethane base. The entire thing blew up, base, ship, kerbal. Everything. Only pieces left here and there, and I'm pretty sure some of them reached orbit.

The two others had an unfortunate re-entry to Kerbin. They were in a Science Lab I de-orbited. It had a few chutes on it, but the main chutes was on the 3-man capsule it was docked to. As the chutes opened, the docking-ports couldn't quite take the stress. So whilst the capsule continued it's descent in a graceful manner and keeping its crew nice and safe, the Science Lab plummeted to the ground and blew up as it hit the ground.

The stranded ones was from my first Duna landing going bad. Well, the landing went fine actually, but not enough fuel to get up again. So one kerbal got stuck. Sent off a rescue mission with a bigger lander. That too got stranded. Second rescue mission did succeed however - by first sending down what amounted basically to a full fuel tank with wheels and KAS parts for fuel lines. Drove this to the second lander who by now had two kerbals in it. Got this fueled up and all was fine.
