Max amount of satellites in 1 hour

Recommended Posts

Your goal is to send as many satellites into Kerbin orbit in 1 hour in the kerbal universe.

Rules:

No part mods

No MechJeb

No alt+F12

No other mods that put you at an advantage

Launching multiple satellites is allowed

Satellite standard!

At least 1x probe body

At least 1x solar panel

At least 1x antenna

Must be able to de-orbit on its own if needed(RCS doesn't count)

No RTG's!

Orbit MUST be circular, max allowed variation between apoapsis and periapsis is 3km(+-200m)

Scoring:

1 point for each VALID satellite

10 points for each Keostationary satellite(2868km)

20 points for each satellite above 4000km

50 points for each satellite above 8000km

100 points for each satellite between Mun and Minmus orbits

Sidenote:

To avoid complications, do this is a new, sandbox save. When applying, remember to include a save download to make sure everything is fair.

As for the "between Mun and Minmus orbits", how do you expect us to get up there and circularize in less than an hour?

Easy. Put a lot of engines on your ship and activate infinite fuel. You can get there in no time.

But I guess that's not what OP meant. Perhaps he meant one satellite per launch? Or maybe they were supposed to enter different orbits? Who knows.

Yeah, this boils down to a part count contest I feel. Send up one launch with a huge bunch of satellites, attain your chosen orbit, and drop them all off.

That's pretty much what I would have done. As many as I could fit of them on a lifter, all with oscar tanks and the tiniest engine for deorbit. Repeat as many times as I can in an hour. I bet I could get 1000 satellites in orbit.

Plus, OP didn't say we can't hyperedit them into place, drastically lower gravity, or alter the orbits of Mun and Minmus so that KSC is already between them, negating the need for launching at all.

I assume Hyperedit and Alt-F12 are forbidden unless explicitly stated otherwise. They are, by their own definitions, cheating.

Since there are so many challenges which allow their usage one way or another, I guess it's good manners to write the extra two lines of challenge rules specifying terms of their usage.

You can get there in one hour, with aggresive transfer burns, be creative :)

Also updated OP to make things more clear

I was able to get 96 launched into LKO in 6 minutes. If it weren't for the lag, I could probably build a satellite sprayer which would take up at least 500 at a time. 500 x 10 times in an hour = 5000 sats into orbit into an hour. But I think my motherboard would melt.

All I did was take 24 radial attachment points slapped on a Rockomax 32 tank. Stacked those 4 high, threw an engine on it. Then my sats consisted of the....and it just crashed KSP....I think they were 1 okto probe core, 1 solar panel, 1 communitron 16, 1 oscar tank and the teeniest rockomax engine. Decoupled those to the radial attachment points. Attain LKO. Jettison. I think my computer was running at spf rather than fps.

Yeek, that adds a LOT of complexity, thus mass, to each satellite!

Lets run some tests, see what is practical...

OKTO2, OX-STAT panel, Communotron 16, and two sepatrons might do the trick. The antenna is massless I think but if it isn't you can use two to have it balanced for its deorbit burn.
